We had the good fortune of connecting with Sammy Clifford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sammy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up Was especially hard for me. My background is one of poverty and abuse.
Creating music was a way for me to sort of escape at first. But then it just sort of grew into this crazy thing we’re people would message me relating to my music and there’s something really rewarding about that to me.
Music has become more than just a career or self expression.
It’s catharsis and I’m so happy that this has become a career path for me.
And that other people get to feel a little less alone at the same time.
It’s so cool.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started playing music in a little shack deep in the hills of Kentucky with my cousin when I was 14 some days it would be so hot we could barely breathe. Other days it would be so freezing and we would barely be able to play our instruments.
The thing I’m proud of is that I get to make music with my friends and tour the country.
We just played the whiskey a go go in Hollywood.
And that’s so crazy to me.
I sometimes still feel like that kid in living deep in poverty in rockcastle county Kentucky.
It’s just insane to think we played the same stage as The Doors and Led Zeppelin and so many other legends.
I feel grateful for everyone who has supported us along the way.
Those challenges we overcame to be on that stage make me feel good about our future in this industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The people are great and the natural beauty is something that just resonates so deeply with me.
Every where feels like I’m in a painting or something haha.
One of my favorite places to visit,
I LOVE Atomic Cowboy in Downtown Denver.
They have amazing food.
Literally one of my favorite tour spots to stop.
All they serve is beer pizza and biscuits.
What else could I want? Haha.

I also love Garden Of The Gods.
And any sort of national parks I can visit while in town.
Izunami CANT WAIT to come back to Colorado.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shane Kelly from Cardigan Records. That guy has helped me learn so much about the business side of music and mentored me and the band for about two years while we worked together.
He’s a real genius at what he does and deserves so much recognition!
