We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” — Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
Coelho is one of my favorite writers and minds. This quote is thrown around a lot, but it impacted my way of thinking from the moment I first read it in “The Alchemist.”
When you want to do something bigger than yourself, and when you have decided that your dream can no longer stay internal and rolling around in your own head, that’s the moment things start happening. Once the shift is made from “I want to do this thing,” to, “I’m doing this thing,” the metaphorical ball starts rolling in the universe and it’s up to you to roll with it. It’s scary, of course, but that decision you’ve made is powerful in and of itself and you’ll have the support of every force in the universe behind you, cheering you on.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business offerings are new to this world, but my healing gifts are not. As an empath and extremely intuitive and spiritual individual, I’ve always connected on a deeper level.
I suppose my journey in healing others professionally started when I took my first job out of college answering 911 calls for a living. I was able to connect with people in a way colleagues did not, and I found the job to be incredibly rewarding but also emotionally and energetically taxing, as you can imagine. For someone who moves through life feeling deeply all the time, it was not a sustainable career. It did, however, spark a stronger level of intuition and give me incredible insight into the chaos and triumphs of humanity.
I found my spirituality towards the end of my 911 career and have been learning and growing in it ever since, connecting with nature and the moon/stars to deepen my gifts. Now I feel is the time to start using those gifts to help others in a way that’s more sustainable for me than 911 – by starting my business. I offer reiki/energy sessions, tarot and oracle readings, and gentle guidance in difficult times using my intuitive gifts to guide me in the session.
My business is called Dark Moon Intuitive Healing for a reason – the dark moon, or new moon, can represent our own winters or dark times. There seems to be no light around us and everything is lost, gone with the moon. But there is always a sliver of hope on the horizon, and the moon will once again return to its full glory and bathe us in light. We just have to get through the darkness and hold on a little longer….and that’s where I come in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in Denver for 14 years so I’ve collected my fair share of favorite spots!
My favorite bars/hangouts are the Thin Man (and St. Mark’s, the coffee shop connected to it), The Corner Office (and catching a show at DCPA across the street!), the Watering Bowl if you have doggies with you, and Jelly or Syrup for brunch. Oh, and Illegal Pete’s! Their queso is everything.
I love the Museum of Contemporary Art, not only for the interesting and sometimes off the wall exhibits, but for their rooftop patio for drinks and a snack and their themed events! Plus, they have penny admission Saturdays on occasion.
Enigma Bazaar is a newer establishment in Denver but it’s such a cool place. The decor ranges from celestial to skulls and they host live music, comedy nights, and movie showings. It’s a great out of the way so to get an interesting experience and good vibes!
If you’re into metaphysical stuff like I am, my go to shops are Ritualcravt, Full Moon Books, and Herbs & Arts for all your tarot or witchy needs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am in my own healing journey without the work of the Sacred Sister Collective, based in Boulder, CO. I attended a retreat on a gut feeling that I needed to be there and secured the last spot – it has transformed the way I look at life and move in the world. The healing and love I received in that retreat helped something click inside me. I realized I had gifts I needed to share, too. It took a while to give them shape, but here we are.
