Meet Sarah Kupec | Owner and Chaos Coordinator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Kupec and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important and impactful thing that I did for our son is quitting my job, and starting my own business. I was working a customer service job from 7am – 3pm everyday. Nothing crazy but I was lucky enough in the beginning of his life to work from home, and after Covid that job went away. So this customer service job was hard on both of us. I hated dropping him off at daycare as much as he hated me leaving. After doing the math and realizing that I my paycheck was going straight to daycare I quit. I didn’t see the purpose in working to pay someone else to raise him. Since, then the last 2 almost 3 years have been amazing. I would not have changed that decision for anything. Getting to stay home and watch him grow has been the highlight of my life, and I know he is a completely different kid because of it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moose Meals is a freeze dried snack, and meal company based out of Northern Colorado. We do fruits, veggies, candy, dog treats and meals upon request. The meals and dog treats are what set us apart from most of the freeze dried companies that are popping up. We just got certified to do chicken and beef livers for dog treats. Meals (MREs) can be used for backpacking, camping, or SHTF. Whatever your need we can accommodate and make what suits you. Business is not easy no matter who you are. It is always filled with struggles. Ours have been many and varying. Usually when I have a problem I call my husband first. Talking it out with him either helps me solve my own problem or he has a solution. The main problems we have had are; equipment failures, over saturation of the market, product shortages, and of course a complete miss understanding of what our product is. But as we move forward we have learned many things about being a small business. Like, explaining and marketing our products so that people understand exactly what we mean when we say freeze dried. Or how to fix equipment on our own. But most importantly we have learned how many different ways our products can be utilized and how we can be useful to other businesses or directly to customers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend is coming out to visit our first stop is to see my brother and brother-in-law at one of their coffee shops (MECO Coffee Collective) in either Longmont or Lafayette. Hopefully they are at their Lafayette location because it is the closest to the Butterfly Pavilion, and my son has been bugging me to go there. The next day we would hit up Devil’s Backbone for a morning hike, and then lunch and beers at Berthoud Brewing in Loveland. Followed by a stop to Scheels and Centerra.
Of course the next day she would make us go to Estes Park. She would probably shop until she dropped and I would then suggest lunch and we would end up at Wapiti for a buffalo burger. We would then make a quick jaunt up to the Park, I would tease her, and call her a flat lander, as she complained that there wasn’t enough air at the top, and then be nice and drive back down the mountain. The rest of our time together would be spent just hanging out and getting caught up on life, and pampering our selves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves all of the credit in this story. He is the one that has picked up the financial burdens as I quit my job to raise our son and start this crazy business adventure. He is also the one that keeps me motivated when it looks like everything is crashing down, and I just want to give up.
