We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila Dunne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheila, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I view risk as anything that is against the “norm” or status quo where the outcome of an action is not as certain. In my career, I started my digital marketing business during my freshman year of college. I gave myself four years at school to build a foundation that could support me full-time upon graduation. I also had the safety net of my degree if I changed my mind or things did not work out. I believe everyone should pursue their passions with a mindset of responsible risktaking while believing wholeheartedly in their ability to “win” while also being patient, graceful, and understanding if they “lose,” knowing that there is something to learn from every failure or setback.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the co-founder of Dunne Goodwin. We are a team of passionate marketing strategists, creatives, growth hackers, and digital natives. Our goal is to help brands stand out in an increasingly saturated digital world.
Our story began in the Fall of 2016. I had just started at Colgate University.
I was immersed in the world of digital marketing at a young age running an Instagram account called “@bestfriendbucketlist” that grew to over 150,000 followers. I learned first hand how to grow and engage an audience. I gravitated towards the advertising and analytics opportunities that social media offered.
Meanwhile, my co-founder Luke Goodwin was going door-to-door pitching local businesses on photo and video shoots.
I got a part-time job with the Women’s Ice Hockey Team as their social media manager to fulfill my work-study requirement. I soon started working with friends and family to run their social media accounts.
We teamed up and decided to officially launch a website in the Spring of 2017. Five years later, we’ve worked with over 85 clients and grown our team to support brands across the globe.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week-long itinerary would involve a variety of activities. I would definitely include yoga and hiking, going out to eat (I never considered myself a foodie but have started to become one since moving), perhaps checking out a speakeasy, going to a concert or show, and some time to relax.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Andy Greenfield and Wills Hapworth.
