Meet Shenna Drain | Owner of dirty hippie CO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shenna Drain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shenna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had a candle making business years ago in West Virginia, where I am from. For various reasons, the business ended, however when I moved to Denver I knew I wanted to find a way to bring it back to life. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 12 years, so when corona shut the world down I had nothing but time on my hands. Thanks to a successful kickstarter campaign, dirty hippie returned! This last year has been a rollercoaster trying to juggle a full time job and a full time side hustle. As of June, I will be focusing on dirty hippie full time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
right now, I am so proud of the dirty hippie CO Pride box I created for the month of June. you get a rainbow candle and bunch of other Pride themed goodies. $5 from every box goes to the Center on Colfax. growing up in a more conservative place, I never would have imagined that I could do things like this with my business. also, I am so proud and excited that dirty hippie is now my full time job. I cannot wait to see what fun things I can pump out this year without the distraction of working somewhere else for 40 hours a week. you’re going to want to stay tuned to see what I come up with next!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to just wander around Rino and check out all of the art. we would definitely go up to the mountains – probably Brainard Lake – that’s one of my favorite spots. maybe check out a Rockies game, baseball games are fun even if you’re not into sports. I have a list of restaurants I’ve been dying to try so I’m sure we would be eating out a lot.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the undying support of my parents. They’ve always been my personal cheerleaders. My partner, Jules always keeps me in the right mindset. She always finds a way to make me forget about any doubts I have. I also have an amazing circle of friends that are always down to give me constructive criticism and sniff whatever new scent I’ve come up with.
