We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Cooley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sierra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my Social Media Management and Content Creation business *officially* in February of 2023, I gave myself no other option than to succeed. I have always struggled with extreme anxiety, so leaving a stable corporate position in order to pursue my passion full-time… was terrifying, to say the least.

I was a freelance makeup artist for 8 years and have always been involved in the creative space in some capacity. In an attempt to promote my own services, I learned a lot about video, photo, editing, and social media marketing tactics. These skills quickly spilled over into my personal platforms and, eventually, the platforms of beauty and wellness businesses all over New England.

Being a business owner comes with a vast array of challenges and rewards. In the past year I have learned more about work ethic, human connection, and entrepreneurship than I ever could have imagined. Of course, I have a long ways to go and a lot more to learn. However, I have finally allowed myself to release the scarcity mindset and adopt an abundant mindset through one of my favorite quotes: “Nothing that is meant for you will ever pass you by”.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Socialbysi, provides Social Media Management and Content Creation services for modern, minimalist businesses looking to elevate their online presence through organic content and genuine community connection. Additionally, we provide Wedding Content Creation services to couples in the New England area.

Socialbysi is unique in it’s approach because we place a strong emphasis on increasing the confidence of each business owner through validation and guidance. Whether we work with a client for 1 month or 2 years, we aim to leave them feeling inspired and re-connected to their online presence.

I believe I have been able to get to this point in my business through… being completely delusional? All jokes aside, the “delulu” mindset trending online has some substance behind it. If someone else can do it… why can’t I? Of course, extreme dedication and strong work ethic heavily contribute. However, being able to remind myself that opportunities would not be presented to me if they were not meant for me has been a game changer.

According to a 2022 article by novo.com, 84% of entrepreneurs and small business owners experience imposter syndrome. Having the confidence to put yourself out there, take the risk, and actually believe that you can build something that people will want to invest their precious time and money into is anything but easy. There have been months that I could barely pay my bills and there have been months that I make more than I have ever made working for anyone else. Put in the work, and trust the process. A little bit of therapy never hurt anyone as well!

Socialbysi is for the entrepreneurs and business owners that feel lost, overwhelmed, and insecure when it comes to showcasing the things that they are so-very-proud-of online. Or, the brides that want to document their special day through organic iPhone content that is perfectly formatted for social media. Nothing is more fulfilling to me than helping people bring their vision to life!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you find yourself in the Providence, RI area there are definitely a few essential spots that I would recommend checking out. A quick breakfast date at The Nitro Bar is a must. They have such a fun, unique selection of food and drinks with a warm and welcoming ambiance. If brunch/lunch is more your jam, Diegos takes the cake for me. Their hot honey pizza is a personal fave, but their brunch menu and spiked flights are beyond delish. The night life in PVD is definitely up and coming. If you’re looking for a classy night out, a few of my favorite cocktail bar options would have to be Clementine’s or Marcelinos Boutique Bar. The vibes are immaculate and the ambiance is elite.

Providence has an immense amount of incredible dinner options. Our historic Federal Hill has some of the best Italian food in the state. Antonios, Venda, and Il Massimo being at the top of my list.

One of my favorite day-time activities includes browsing thrift shops. If traveling to Providence, I always recommend checking out Nostalgia on Westminster St or The Pawtucket Antique Mall. I could spend hours filing through all the incredible pieces.

As far as night time activities, MUSE Paint Bar is always a fun option! It is easy to get to, affordable, and unique. You are provided with canvas’, paints, small eats, and a bar to unwind while enjoying a relaxing paint session. Can’t paint? Don’t worry… neither can I! Or most of the people attending the paint night. You are guided through the painting with a professional that makes the process super easy and digestible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my friend, Donielle Campopiano. Without her, I would not be nearly as far in my business as I am now. She took a chance and trusted me with the creative direction of her local clothing company back in 2020. Now, I am blessed to call her a close friend and strong business referral.
