We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Kormos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My inspiration to start this business came from my own four children. I love to capture the genuine, joy-filled moments and special bonds shared between family members. I’ve always believed that the outdoors offers a beautiful, ever-changing canvas that perfectly complements the authentic emotions and connections that make family memories so special. After years of photographing my own family and seeing how powerful those images were in preserving our story, I wanted to help others do the same.

Twinkle Portraits was born from a desire to blend artistry with heartfelt storytelling. I wanted to create a photography experience that felt relaxed, meaningful, and fun. I believe in allowing families to be themselves, and creating beautiful memories in the process. Watching clients see themselves through my lens and cherish the moments we’ve captured together is the most rewarding part of what I do, and it continues to inspire me every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is all about capturing genuine, emotive moments that tell a family’s unique story. At Twinkle Portraits, I specialize in natural light photography with a warm, dreamy aesthetic as my signature style. What I’m most proud of is creating a space where families feel relaxed and truly seen, especially the little ones. I’ve learned that it’s not just about getting the “perfect” shot, but about capturing the fleeting moments — a toddler’s giggle, a parent’s quiet smile — that become treasured memories. Photography isn’t just my job; it’s my passion and my way of helping people hold onto the moments that matter most.

The road to where I am today wasn’t always easy. Like many small business owners, I started with a camera, a big dream, and a lot of self-doubt. Balancing work and family life has been a challenge, but I’ve learned to grow through the chaos, lean on my support system, and stay true to my creative voice. I want people to know that Twinkle Portraits isn’t just about beautiful pictures, it’s about heart, connection, and preserving the magic of everyday life. My story is still unfolding, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Denver for a week, I’d have a packed itinerary full of the city’s best food, nature, and creative energy. We’d kick things off with brunch at Snooze for pancakes and mimosas. Then stroll through RiNo to check out the street art and grab coffee at Crema. A day trip to Red Rocks is a must to walk the amphitheater and nearby trails, and maybe even catch a concert. At night, we’d hit El Five for tapas and one of the best skyline views in town, followed by cocktails at Williams & Graham, the speakeasy that never disappoints.

Midweek, we’d take a breather in nature with a visit to Boulder or a drive up to Estes Park for some hiking and fresh mountain air. Back in the city, I’d plan a day around the Denver Art Museum, vintage shopping in South Broadway, and catching a comedy show at Comedy Works downtown. And of course, we’d carve out time for some fun breweries like Odell or Ratio Beerworks, and a casual, locals-loved dinner at Postino or Root Down. Denver has this vibrant mix of outdoorsy energy and creative soul. The perfect balance of hiking a mountain in the morning and ending your day at a rooftop bar under string lights.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m incredibly thankful for the unwavering support and encouragement I’ve received along the way. My biggest cheerleaders have always been my children. They inspire me daily to see the world with wonder and creativity, which shines through in every photo I take. And my husband deserves a huge thank you for being the steady anchor in our busy lives. Whether it’s managing the household, wrangling bedtime solo while I’m at golden hour shoots, or simply reminding me to breathe during the chaos of busy season, his help makes it all possible.

I also owe so much to my mentors, fellow creatives, and friends who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. From encouraging me to take that leap into full-time photography to sharing hard-won wisdom over coffee chats, their guidance has been invaluable. Every client who trusts me to capture their precious memories plays a part in this journey too. Success never happens in a vacuum; it’s built on the shoulders of those who show up with love, patience, and a little bit of magic.
