Meet Taylor Spain | Painter, Finisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Spain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from Nashville Tennessee. I lived in Los Angeles for a time and have been in Colorado for the last 12 years. I grew up in a family of artisans and tradesmen in Tennessee, from my great grandparents on both sides down to me we have all been some kind of crafter or maker. My parents both ran businesses in the construction industry and I started showing up on job sites as a small kid. Once I got a little older, the freedom and satisfaction of running a business and creating things was an obvious choice. The value of being taught how to work with my hands and give people something they enjoy is second to none. That background of family and growing up in a central hub for music in Nashville I think was a mix that doomed me to a creative path. There didn’t seem to be much else I wanted to do but create.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being raised by independent people and entrepreneurs was a huge part of it but also learning as I grew up how valuable that freedom and satisfaction was. Being able to work with my hands and give people something g that brings them joy is a really positive business to be in. The challenges along the way were various, from learning to work well on crews and for other tradesman, to finding out how to do my own business budget for the first time. Ibelieveyou pay for knowledge in time, money, or a mix of the two, and I’ve done all three. Being in the construction industry is a challenging space physically but it’s more rewarding than any other job or thing Ive attempted, I have definitely learned ,y own value over the years and what expertise and time are really worth, I’ve been asked how long things take sometimes and I say 16 years, because that’s how long it’s taken me to get this good at what I do, I’ve also learned that there’s inherent value in teaching and passing along things that make people’s. Ives better.
I’d like to educate people more on these things and spread the idea that making something amazing just takes dedication and love for what you do,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to some local restaurants ans then maybe a show. But definitely put to the mountains to see places like Steamboat Springs or Cripple Creek. I’m a big fan of a restaurant called Bamboo or for a good greasy burger Snarfburger or maybe Cheba Hut. Comedy works is always great and the shows at The Summit and Fillmore are worth the trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My whole family had such an impact on me but jn particular my mother. She started finishing when I was a young kid and had the patience and kindness to teach me everything she was learning and creating. Without her I wouldn’t be who I am no doubt.
