We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I think it is somewhat a part of everyone’s dream to “not work for the man” at some point in their lives, and be able to pursue a career in a field you love, where you can be your own boss. The saying really is true that if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life!
While I had paved out a pretty solid career path for myself over the years, I didn’t feel fulfilled, nor did I feel like I really loved what I was going. When Covid happened, it was a big wake up call that life is very unpredictable and that it’s super important to do what you love, not take anything for granted, and to not be afraid to take risks to get there.
I’ve had a very eclectic career path over the last 15 or so years. I’ve had various marketing and sales roles for great companies including Celebrity Cruises, the PGA TOUR, Red Bull and more! Each position I held taught me new skills, new ways of interacting with others, new marketing strategies, and essential business acumen that cannot be taught in a classroom.
Launching my business was certainly not easy. I was navigating a new state/city, figuring out laws, creating operating systems, finding vendors and distributors, creating a social media brand and following, finding locations, building my network, and more! Every day is a new adventure, but I wouldn’t change it for anything and the sky is the limit!
While I knew it wouldn’t be easy, I ultimately decided to dive in head first and move forward with my business! I knew could combine my true love and passion for dogs with my proven marketing skills to ultimately grow my business into the company I am confident it will become.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bone Apétreat was a true passion project. I’ve loved dogs since I was a little girl, and nothing makes me smile more than than literally working everyday to make them happy! Dogs are only on this planet for a limited time, therefore, I think they should be spoiled every day!! I can honestly say I think I have the best job ever!
While I worked with an amazing design team, the concept and branding for my business was my own creation. I knew exactly how I wanted the world to see my brand, and wasn’t going to settle for anything less.
Bone Apétreat is truly a concept like no other! We are Denver’s First Real Dog Treat Food Truck, serving up all sorts of custom baked treats, chews, bagged treats, frozen yogurts and more! We source our products from other small business who may be struggling as a result of the pandemic, and try to source as many items as possible from right here in Colorado. We are very particular about each and every ingredient as the health of our customers is of the utmost importance. We travel around Denver, and other surrounding cities, serving residential communities, breweries, events, and more.
Keep an eye out as we may be hiring, and offering franchise opportunities in the near future!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many options! Having moved here during Covid, I am still learning a lot myself.
Top locations on the list would definitely be the Off Leash Dog area at Cherry Creek State park, the wolf sanctuary in Bellvue, Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park to see some Elk and enjoy the scenery, anywhere in the Mountains, and Waterton Canyon to see some Big Horned Sheep.
We’d also obviously have to work in some good food and wine! I love wine! We’d definitely frequent many of the restaurants in my neighborhood in Cherry Creek, and hit up a few on my list of places I’m dying to try out!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow! Where to begin. First an foremost, I am very thankful to have a very loving and supportive family. My parents who have now been married for 50 years, have always been an amazing and supportive sounding board, and have always pushed me to be the best they knew I could be. They never let me give into obstacles, and gave me the confidence I needed to believe in myself. I also have two sisters, both entrepreneurs themselves, who have helped me learn by example about just how much hard work can pay off.
Additionally, over the years, I have had select close friends and managers who really took an interest in my success, and continue
d to provide me with the tools I needed in order to continue to grow. They were always there to support me through the hard times, and help me come out on the other side.
Lastly, while he may not realize it and will never read the article, my own rescue German Shepherd , Graham, has played a HUGE part in keeping me sane over the years. We moved cross country together, three times, have been on many adventures, survived Covid in seclusion, and he’s always been there to make me smile, during even the toughest of times. He was truly the inspiration for the business, and I am grateful to have him in my life every day!
