We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
At the beginning of my career balance did not exist unfortunately! I was trying to jumpstart my own business while also trying to be a whole mom to 3 daughter and a wife. Sadly at that time I didn’t have systems in place, I was overwhelmed and did not have a concrete plan. Let’s just say the work life balance lance did not exist. Over time the mindset shifted for the better. I’ve been utilizing my calendar/planner to organize my days and this has helped out significantly. I have also increased my productivity by writing down 3-4 things to do a day and crossing them out as I go. We’re not meant to be overwhelmed all the time; it can limit your drive, passion, and it can disturb you life’s pattern. That can definitely affect the one’s you love. I now choose to enjoy the journey and take it easy!
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from other is that I focus on the ambience and the vibe that I create. I put on relaxing music that is specified to my client’s taste, I lock the door and I make sure that their noses are met with pleasant calming smells. It’s just me and my client once we began and I want them to feel like they are a VIP. I actually start off by researching what I needed to do to become a professional makeup artist in Colorado. That lead me to go to school to get licensed to be an esthetician; while attending school I fell in love with corrective skin care and I knew at that point I wanted to start my own spa doing both. After getting licensed I decided to work underneath some other spas so that I could get some on the job training. Once I felt I had enough knowledge I stepped out on my own. I had to use my own money and even put up my car and house to pay for supplies and space to work in. So it definitely has not been easy to get where I’m at now. It took a lot of late nights and staying disciplined to get over the hurdles and most importantly really digging in to my faith in God. The journey that I just described taught me patiences, organization, time management, and how to strategize just to name a few. When it is all said and done I want people to know that FaceMode strives to build the confidence of our clients by making them fall in love with their skin again. My brand will be known for cultivating a community of people that are eager to make conscious healthy skin & beauty choices.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sadly to say I’ve become a bit of a home body, since I’ve been pursuing me entrepreneurial endeavors, but I do want to get out more. Now, I don’t mean out door adventures in nature because I’m not an out doors type of girl. I do enjoy places like Top Golf or Celebrity lanes so we would definitely have to go some where and get our competition on. I would have to of course try some great restaurants like Texas De Brazil or Pappadeaux. I’m a chill type of women so our evening plans would be to go relax at a lounge like Soil Dove or Dazzle and check out some of my favorite local artists and musicians.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to of course shout out my wonderful husband that’s been holding me down since I started this journey and stepping in sometimes to be a bootleg maintenance man. I want to scream and shout out my 3 girls that have been very understanding when mommy is not able to be around and helpful when I ask them to contribute to the FaceMode work. I definitely have to shout out my Mom who never misses an appointment and insist on paying for her services and products. I also, want to thank my Dad because he has always believed that I was going to be a special lady. My grandpa also has to get some love because he helped his grand baby out when I needed him and just like my mom he insisted on paying for my services. All of my close cousins, uncles and aunts get a shout out as well because they gave me encouragement and some of them were willing to be my guinea pigs and models. I have to also shout out my Refuge of Denver church family just because I love them. I would like to also shout my girl Makiesha the CEO of Sista Biz who has been my client and a business mentor. I want to give some mention to Ms. Pamela as well who has been an esthetician mentor and is a pioneer when it comes to corrective skin care for women of color. Lastly I have to shout out all my clients and supporters because they have truly become like another family and have made coming to FaceMode Studio through out the week a joy. To God be the glory!
