We had the good fortune of connecting with Valentine Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valentine, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks can be scary, but totally worth it! With risk comes great reward, but the potential for failure is always on the table. I have learned to not be afraid to fail because failure can result in growth! There are so many lessons to be learned through trying a risky venture and not seeing success right away. It’s so important to get up after you fall. The times that I decided to try again and do the hard work of learning from my failures has produced so much fruit that I never would have expected. At the end of the day, I don’t want to bury my talents. Often times reaching the destination isn’t the measure of success, but the journey that gets you there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I fell in love with photography because each photograph is unique in its own right. I love capturing the sparkle in a person’s eye and how the beautiful world that we live in can cause a person to shine. Everyday presents a new perspective, especially during the golden hour where the light that shines on someones face just creates a special moment. I love to capture those because it’s like a moment frozen in time forever.

There’s a raw emotion that comes through the camera. Whether that’s tears of joy, giggles, or belly laughs, it’s all beautiful! Life moves so fast and it’s so important to capture the moments in life that we can so easily speed past. A newborn baby, for instance, is constantly growing and changing and each stage is priceless! It’s so hard for a sleepy parent to commit everything to memory, so I absolutely love to help record every little detail!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Without a doubt, Colorado Springs is one of the best places to experience! Some of my absolute favorite spots are Garden of the Gods, Rock Ledge Ranch, Cheyenne Canyon, and Palmer Lake! There’s so much diversity in the city from mountain landscapes to colonial ranches. Every sunset and mountain view is gorgeous and you might even get surprised with a foggy background or a rain shower in the distance that lights up the sky!

Downtown offers some of the coolest hangs. Shuga’s is the best and there’s a fun restaurant row nearby to bounce around and try the apps and drinks. I love Dos Santos for tapas and Epiphany for live music. You can’t forget Fujiyama if you like sushi too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I couldn’t do it without my loving, handsome husband Matt Ross. We have four kids together and he has always been so supportive of my career as a photographer. Whenever I have a photo shoot, he’s there to take care of the kids. And when I have hours of editing to do, I can rest assured that everything around the house will be taken care of. He inspires me because he’s an artist himself as a musician. He understands the creative process and what it takes to find the golden moments that touch the heart.
