Most of the media often paints all businesses with a single stroke, but in our experience businesses are each unique and so many of them are focused on making the world a better place. We’ve highlighted a few such gems below.

As a multimedia artist, I hunt found objects and recyclable materials that would otherwise end up as trash. I use these objects as creatively as I can to create unique, one-of-a-kind sculptures, paintings, and other collectibles. My practice includes reusing papers and other odd remnants for collages. For example, I will cut an old canvas that did not meet my standards of fine art and use the scrap pieces in a painting. I also hand-paint and resin lightbulbs. I either sell the bulbs as garden decor or mount them on found objects, creating one-of-kind glass sculptures. Reusing and upcycling meets an important personal goal of reducing any negative impact my art business has on the environment while adding artistic beauty to our lives. Read more>>

Jeanne O’Connor | Metalsmith & Artist
Though we like our bezels burnished and rings polished, the jewelry industry isn’t always so shiny behind the scenes. The collection of precious metals and gemstones can often lead to negative social and environmental consequences. As a previous Park Ranger and lifelong outdoor enthusiast, I believe that material sourcing matters. Within my small business, I take responsibility by working with ethical vendors to purchase fair trade gems and recycled metals. Additionally, I’ve implemented techniques into my studio practice such as conserving resources and carefully reclaiming metal scraps. Using these materials and approaches, I create thoughtfully crafted pieces that my community can treasure for years to come. Read more>>
