The deciding factor: what’s the most important factor behind your success?

There are so many factors that can play a role in determining our results, performance and ultimately our success, but some factors matter more than others. We asked folks what they felt was the most important factor driving their success.

The most important factor behind my success by far is relationships. I see a bunch of therapists in groups I’m a part of who are struggling to get clients, but I’m fortunate to be in a different position. I have several very successful and experienced therapists whom I know and trust, and we have become primary referral sources for one another. I also have some strategic partnerships with a churches that send me clients. It makes me think of fishing: you go to where the fish are! Read More>>

Having launched several successful companies, I knew delivering results would drive growth, and it did. One of my biggest challenges was breaking through the mainstream reliance on all-positive training methods, which often fail with dogs displaying serious behavioral issues like aggression or severe anxiety. For example, a highly reactive dog may require more than just treats and praise. It needs clear boundaries and structure to feel secure and learn proper behavior. Many trainers push techniques that don’t work for all dogs, especially those with complex behavioral challenges. Read More>>

Being willing to provide healthcare to the least appreciated animals in the world. These are the working horses donkeys and mules who move the world. They never receive appropriate veterinary care or appreciation for the life-saving service they provide to their families who cannot Live without them. Their presence is a reminder to all of us that wealth and fame are not as important as hard work and dedication. We were willing to sacrifice our time and finances to provide the best possible care for these animals that in turn provide income and stability to their human families. Read More>>

While “peersonal” connection (connecting with peers) and a commitment to a disciplined work schedule make up the foundational structure for success for me, I think it’s my ability to give back to my community in service/leadership roles.
I served my community in 2024 by applying for and getting selected as a 40 West Ambassador, a volunteer position that primarily involved opening, managing and closing the 40 West Gallery in the 40 West Hub on the second Friday of each month in 2024. It was a great intersection of artists and art enthusiasts/collectors where I made wonderful connections. Read More>>
