We are so inspired by the businesses in our community because of how many of them are committed to helping to make the world better than it is today. Check out some great businesses below and how they are helping others.

Katie Grinstead | Tattoo artist, business owner, & Mama

Plenty of folks can look at the body modification industry and think there is no way we help our communities—I would fully disagree! Starting out, I was solely a body piercer, and I’ll tell you about the moment I fell in love with it. A few years into being a piercer, I had a client come in to have a nipple pierced. I asked if she wanted to pierce them both eventually, she said that wasn’t possible because she had one inverted nipple. She said to me, “I hate even looking in the mirror at that side, so I figured I’d decorate this one.” With fear of overstepping, I gently explained that sometimes, we’re able to pierce a nipple in such a way that it isn’t inverted anymore. She allowed me to examine her anatomy and I felt she was a perfect candidate for exactly that. Once both nipple piercings were done, I asked her if she wanted to go look in the mirror. Read more>>

At Relish, we like to say we help good people do great things through digital marketing. We strive to help purpose-focused, growth-driven leaders make the world a better place. When looking at partnerships and assessing new client opportunities, we look at each through this lens. Alane J | Musician – Drummer, Singer, Songwriter

I’ve been a musician/songwriter since I was 8 years old. My songs have always been about things I have personally experienced but the messages were not always positive. Some were written out of anger and frustration. After a breast cancer scare in 2022, I decided to go full steam back into playing music and songwriting with the purpose of inspiring people and providing positive messages. I believe music can heal and give people hope. All of the songs I record and distribute are uplifting and I have received numerous messages from people who have been helped by my music. Read more>>

Veronica Walton | Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor

I practice from a social justice, feminist, and systemic lens. So, while my main impact as a therapist reaches the individual level through person-to-person engagement, by bringing in these foundational values and lenses, I aim to offer a more holistic and inclusive therapy experience, particularly to those of marginalized groups in society. I work to support clients in the endeavor of rediscovering lost parts of self and work to integrate into their most whole, authentic version of themselves. When individuals grow into themselves, relationships tend to become more authentic; by relationships becoming more open to each partners’ parts of self, the individual grows. This bidirectional feedback loop can happen on every level of each system. So, at the very least I hope to create a safe environment for clients to explore the discomfort of change and understand themselves better, so when they show up in their world they make connections that add even more fulfillment to their life. Sami Tellatin | COO and Founder

FarmRaise delivers financial software that helps farmers master their farm finances. This is critical for the nearly two million farms and ranches across the United States, as 97% are family-owned operations and 88% are considered small farms. Producers don’t have the time to navigate complex paperwork for financial management like IRS or U.S. Department of Agriculture forms. Yet, they need access to the resources these institutions provide, such as cost-share support and tax deductions to keep the farm business thriving. Read more>>

Anna Lyon | Horror bookseller

I was really passionate about creating a sustainable business. The climate crisis is always on my mind, and I’m so inspired by the many businesses out there who are dedicated to secondhand and sustainable practices. I’m also just a passionate thrifter, and love giving an item another life. All of our books are secondhand or publisher’s overstock. That means they may not be in perfect condition, but most of our books are in great shape. All of our packaging is made out of recycled materials. Our gifts are sourced from other small businesses and independent artists. I even bought a refurbished shipping label printer. We are an online store, and the entire business is run out of my very old basement. I really tried my best to make the business a positive, or at the very least neutral, for the planet. That doesn’t mean I’m perfect at it, but I do try to lead with intention. The other benefit of secondhand books is that my prices are affordable for people. I completely recognize how expensive books can be, and I hope to offer people great books at an accessible price. Read more>>
