We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Langton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
My children see a strong woman who has a brave, kind heart and never gives up when something is important to her. I hope that my children are brave enough to fight for their heart when it’s important to them. I hope they are kind to others, as I believe kindness is at the root of everything good. I hope they become strong individuals and decide that they are worthy of just being themselves, that they understand they can most bless this world when they are in their purest form.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a landscape and wildlife photographer. As a young child I experienced a lot of abuse and was often left feeling abandoned, hopeless, unloved and unwanted. I spent time in nature as often as I could to get away from the source of those feelings. When I was in nature, I felt free to be myself, with no external pressures to be what somebody else wanted me to be. In those times, surrounded by the beauty of nature, I was free to be me!

Ever since I can remember, I have been taking photos, first starting off using 35mm film and one-time-use flash bulbs. I have gotten so many compliments on my photos that I decided to open a business, Heather Langton Photography, LLC, and sell my landscape and wildlife photography. Taking photos is a way for me to bring nature to others, which in turn provides them with hope, self-acceptance and love for others. I now get to spend my days in nature looking for the perfect shot, and that’s pretty cool!

I donate 25% of profits from the sale of my photography to a non profit called The Community, which works with those who have criminal records. They work with these individuals on multiple levels. The Community helps with pre-entry, as well as working with the community to Correct the Narrative, and they also publish an informational and inspirational newsletter that is read by thousands in the prison system. I believe in what they do and I believe they bring hope to others who feel they may have none of their own.

I not only donate a portion of my profits to The Community, I also send one 4×6 photo from my Online Photo Gallery to one incarcerated person with every order placed on my website for digital or prints of my photographs at www.HeatherLangton.com. The incarcerated community has many people who yearn to connect with nature since, in many cases, they don’t even get to experience having grass under their feet. This is a way for me to bring nature to those that cannot find it on their own.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Garden of the Gods, Jake & Telly’s, Paravicini’s, Palmer Park to hike, walk by the river running through Starsmore, and I would encourage them to just hang out somewhere with a view and stare at the beautiful scenery everywhere around us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Janna Hoiberg was my business coach for many years when I owned and operated a construction business. She taught me most of what I know about running a profitable business.
