Meet Amy Harris | Licensed Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what matters most to you?
Empathy & therapeutic relationships are most important to me in my massage practice. Building trust and respect with the client is the foundation of a successful massage. When there is trust and respect between the client and myself, it opens up communication which helps me address the clients’ challenges and concerns more thoroughly and effectively. Having empathy for each individual client’s needs and wants is the kind of caring approach I like to uphold in my business practice.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think a few things set me apart from other massage therapy businesses. I run my practice out of my home so there is a comfort in that for my clients that is very different than a corporate massage business or spa. I have a range of clients but some are battling cancer, some have extensive pain and severe injuries and for them to be able to park close, get in the door and onto the table in minimal time and to come into a space that’s warm, welcoming, calm, quiet and more personable, it creates just the atmosphere they are in need of and keeps them coming back. Another thing I feel sets me apart is my hands-on experience. I’ve been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 23+ years! Most therapists don’t last that long as it can be very hard on our bodies. I’ve been able to continue for this long by making self-care a priority and I truly believe that makes all the difference. Massage therapy is all about self-care so, I feel it’s very important for me to practice that as well. Lastly, I feel my ability to listen sets me apart. Not just listening to the client through conversation but listening to their body as I work on it. Noticing the little twitches or when they might be holding their breathe. Listening to the muscles push back and the way movement and rotation works in their own unique body. It really feels like an art.
I want others to know that my doors are open, and I am always welcoming new clients. Whether it’s your first time getting a massage or you’ve been incorporating it into your own self-care routine for years, I’d love to meet you and see what kind of healing we can create together.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado has so many amazing opportunities and spots but some of the closer places I’d pick out to take them would be Red Rocks for a concert, Golden Gate State Park for some nature and hiking time, Jefe’s in Longmont for margaritas, chips and queso, Cerus Fitness to work off those margs and queso, definitely some yoga somewhere peaceful, a Denver Nuggets game and some relaxed coffee shop time and pastries at MECO would absolutely be a part of our plans. I’m sure we’d get into a whole lot more in a week but those are a few of my favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I got where I am today with the love and support of so many people. First and foremost, my parents supporting my desire to become a massage therapist, moving me to Arizona for school and encouraging me every step of the way. My family has always been supportive in my massage journey whether I was taking breaks to explore other jobs, working at spas/clubs or diving headfirst in to running my own practice. My friends have been so supportive of me and my practice by sending me clients, handing out business cards, marketing me by word of mouth and just all-around positive vibes towards my business. My colleagues along the way have also been a source of support, mentorship, friendship and love which keeps me going at every turn. I truly am blessed by all the people I have in my corner.
