We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Nicklas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
There are many different types of risks a person can take in their life. I believe as long as the risk is fueled by passion you should take it. Looking back at college me, I took a risk to uproot my life by dropping everything and moving from Colorado to follow a dream I was passionate about. Now with risk, there does come failure, but it’s how you manage that failure that ultimately helps you learn and grow.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The saying “the best things in life don’t come easy” is true. Behind every successful business is a ton of hardworking individuals who share a similar goal. At Butter Creations, we are a team full of talented and passionate creatives who each bring a key part to the company while sharing the same overall interest in visual storytelling. Butter Creations understands that each client is unique in their own way, this is part of what excites the team when storyboarding a video. We bring a fun and exciting energy to the creative process by stepping into the shoes of the client to make sure we develop a video that serves the exact needs the client wants in a creative way. A huge lesson that I’ve learned along the way is that every person you encounter you can learn from in one way or another. It is important to always continue growing and experimenting with craft. We are in the business of creating stories, but even more than that we are in the business of creating meaningful and lasting relationships with clients. At Butter Creations we work hard to deliver the best quality content while making many friendships along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in Denver for a little over 4 years now, along the way I’ve made great friendships with a few local businesses. Let’s start with food. In the morning the first stop is usually a coffee shop. Our all-time favorite coffee shop, that I bring everyone who visits to is Lekker. It is owned by the best mother, daughter duo who make you feel at home every time you walk in. Next stop is breakfast, as someone who went to college in the south, a place that has good grits is always a gem and Universal has the best. For lunch, I enjoy taking people to Denver Central Market, it has a great atmosphere and is filled with great local food. For dinner, my first recommendation is Postino, from the wine and food to the views from the patio it’s a great place to bring someone visiting.

For the activities, I always try to make sure I bring friends/family who visit to the mountains. Denver has a lot of great activities but many of our friends come to see the mountains. In the winter Movement (Bouldering Gym) is always our go-to when we are in Denver. In the mountains, I bring friends/family to Copper or Winter Park to snowboard. In the summer, I typically will bring people to Red Rocks to hike or see a concert.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have certainly have had a lot of support throughout my career. I am very lucky to be surrounded by people who continue to encourage me to chase my ambitions. My family and girlfriend have always supported my ideas, no matter how wild they may sound at the time, and are always there to help guide me through difficult situations. I am also very proud of the team behind Butter Creations: Tomas Morgan, Frankie Lee, and Zack Altschuler who have helped build such a fun and productive work environment. I believe success is largely credited to the people around you.
