Meet Brette Huff | Wedding Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brette Huff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brette, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The nature of being a stay-at-home mom while simultaneously running a full-time wedding planning business means there is very little “true” work/life balance. Instead, I have learned over the last two years to be truly present in whatever I’m doing. If I’m playing with my kids, I’m all in—reading with them or playing with Elsa! But when it comes time to work, I have figured out the best times of day (mostly naptime) to really sit down and get everything done. I can do more in a two-hour naptime now than what I was able to accomplish working a 9-to-5 job beforehand! Luckily, I have an incredible support system in my family, who absolutely adore my children, so on the days I’m meeting with clients, on venue tours, or on-site for a wedding, I can be all in because I know my kids are in good hands.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started Wild Poppy Events in 2023 to bring adventurous, experience-focused wedding planning to Southwest Colorado. The journey wasn’t easy, but it started with a solid foundation. I had an incredible business coach whose decade in the industry gave me a real leg up. I launched at the end of that year’s wedding season, so I spent the next six months in pure hustle mode. I walked into every venue within an hour’s drive, introducing myself and learning what types of weddings they were looking to book. I then DM’ed or called every photographer I could find in the area to build those connections. It took a lot of time, but that effort paid off immediately—the very first wedding I booked came from a photographer’s recommendation!
That initial year taught me my first big lesson: a wedding is only as successful as the vendor team behind it. A keystone of my business is cultivating a network of the best local vendors and connecting them with the perfect couple. This focus on building a strong, collaborative team is what truly brings a wedding vision to life. I’m so proud that this approach has paid off, as I now book the most amazing weddings & most of the leads come through recommendations from other local vendors.
Of course, the biggest challenge was internal. Imposter syndrome runs deep in this industry, and I was no exception. During my first few inquiry calls, I would freeze when a potential client asked, “Why should I hire you?” My mind would go completely blank! But after that first year, I had a major realization about my own worth and what I bring to the table. I learned that my promise to my couples is that no one will work harder for them on their big day. No matter what dilemma pops up, I will make sure their wedding unfolds beautifully, even if there’s a little chaos behind the scenes!
This journey has shaped what Wild Poppy Events is all about today. My brand is for the adventurous, the wildly in love, and for couples who want to create an “experience,” not just check off a list. With a background in hospitality, I love helping my clients craft not only a great wedding day but a true, memorable experience for their guests that will last a lifetime. That’s the story I want the world to know—that we’re here to build an unforgettable experience, grounded in a team of people who are passionate about celebrating your love.

I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Jes Barkman with Knotted Consulting – she has been tantamount as a business coach in not only helping me get my business off the ground but has been there each step of the way guiding me to create more than just a job, but truly a career I am so grateful to have!
Also I would like to say 1000 thank you’s to my family, whom without, I would be unable to have made my business what it is today!!! You are all more than I could have ever hoped for and my children and I are so lucky to have you!
