We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlotte Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlotte, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought behind starting my business was many spas lack the personal connection and consistent client experience. When a new client comes into my spa I ensure their appointment is individually customized and a relationship is established.
I have created an environment that provides an undisturbed sanctuary for my clients. From the private room, clean linens, soft light and the relaxing music my spa is equipped to ensure the best spa encounter possible.
It starts from the first appointment when we discuss health history, medications, current products used, current regimens, concerns and what they look to gain by coming to the spa. Every appointment thereafter starts with a follow up conversation before we begin any services.
Based on our discussion, and the services I offer, I tailor their appointment to work towards the goals discussed. As I work with the skin I observe any issues and discuss them with the client at the end of their appointment. This consists of which products to use and how to implement that into their skincare regimen to address and correct the issue.
Although I make product recommendations I never pressure a client to purchase a product. Instead, I give the client samples of the products I recommend to ensure the product works well with the clients skin. I don’t find value in selling a product to a client until we confirm it works with their skin.
After each appointment I follow up with the client within seventy two hours to see how their skin is feeling as well as how the products are performing. Depending on what the customers issues are I will do one or more follow up sessions to ensure positive progression. I work closely with my clients to help them feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.
I give the same attention and follow up with all of the services I offer (Lashes, Brows and Waxing). Providing them with the knowledge and tools to maintain the best outcome from their appointment.
When I see my clients in public they greet me with a hug, they send me baby announcements or family vacation pictures. They refer their friends and family to me as they know the personal experience at my spa is unique.
By talking and checking in with my clients on a regular basis we get to know each other a connection is forged and a trust is built. Which is exactly what my thoughts and goals were when I decided to launch my business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a spa owner and Esthetician was not my first professional path. My story began in telecommunications. I started at a young age and worked my way up the ranks wearing many hats along the way. This gave me the ability to learn how to work with different personality types, how to work in different work settings, how to build my knowledge while expanding my skill set. I learned the importance of being professional while building and maintaining a good rapport with people was vital to my success and the success of others.
Although my telecommunications career was a successful one, I had entered into another stage of my life that held a greater priority to me, Motherhood. Overnight I became a stay at home mom and my world was flipped upside down. I was used to working 60-80 hours a week in a cut throat environment, but that was nothing compared to what I had stepped into. Everything I thought I knew about a stay at home mom was 100% wrong.
I immediately had to learn how to the role of the entertainer, the caregiver, the house keeper, the chef, the accountant, the planner and scheduler, along with many other roles with no pay and no breaks. Although it was tough in the beginning I learned to love and appreciate my roles. My time with my daughter during those years was priceless.
Eventually my daughter was in school all day and I was left with no clue what to do next.
I knew I loved making people feel good about themselves so I went back to school for Esthetics. I completed my schooling, passed the state testing and became a licensed Esthetician.
Since then I have continued my education, growing my skills and expanding my certifications. After working in the industry for several years I felt it was time to grow on a larger scale. With the support of my family and friends I now own and operate Divine Beauty and Style day spa in Brighton. I get to meet the greatest people and help them feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. I build relationships and experiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I have a friend coming to visit me in Colorado I want to show them a good time mixed with a little nature, good food and good company. * A simple hike in Golden to let them see a glance at the beauty of our mountains. After working up an appetite we would head to Beau Jo’s pizza for the best pizza in our state.
* A visit to Boulder – Pearl Street mall to see the various street performers and stop for some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
* A night out downtown with dinner at my favorite French Restaurant- Bistro Vendome, followed by some entertainment at the Comedy Works.
* A day trip to Estes Park for the small town experience. A little shopping, lunch, lots of freshly made taffy and other sugary treats. Followed up with a walk around Stanley lake with a view of the hotel where the Shining was filmed.
* The rest of the time we would just visit at my home in good company with food, cocktails and games.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my journey there have been many ups and downs but no matter what my husband and daughter have been by my side motivating me to be the best person I can be.
My husband is my rock and my better half. He supports and encourages my constant need to learn and grow. He has taught me it is okay to accept the help of others and that it is okay to make mistakes. He cheers me on when I achieve a success and comforts me when I run into complications.
On the other hand my daughter keeps me on my toes with just the right amount of sassy and sweetness. She reminds me why it is so important to live a life of integrity and to be a good person. Her smile can brighten my spirit and her hugs fill my heart.
These two have been there with me every step of the way. From helping set up the spa to volunteering to let me try new treatments on them. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for them. Without these two I would not have the level of success in my business and my life that I have today. With them on my side I feel like I can accomplish anything.
