We had the good fortune of connecting with Curshion Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Curshion, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up I always wanted to find a outlet to express how I was feeling inside. I played football growing up however that only catered to the aggression I had built up over the years. When I was introduced to theater at the age of 14 I fell in love instantly because one of the The most important thing I love about the work that I do is the storytelling. I have been truly blessed with a gift to bring other’s stories to life in a creative way. I’m able to carefully cultivate someone’s dream, break it apart and weave it back together like a quilt. It is truly an honor to be able to do that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey was not easy. I started sharing stories with my iphone which fuel my passion to director and a producer.

I am one dynamic visionary and creative genius that you want to know. My own life’s story
is motion picture worthy. My truth is gut wrenching, yet inspirational and has fueled my pursuit of
expressing myself through acting and various creative outlets. My love for the arts and passion for
sharing people’s stories, has created into the powerhouse I am today. I am storyteller
extraordinaire and through my unique visionary lens, I capture the raw truth in the stories of people.

I was born in Northern, California. The early years of my life took place in the inner city of Sacramento,
California.Witnessing poverty, violence and the grit of struggle. I relocated to Denver Colorado at the
age of 16 to pursue a fresh start but ran into major life changes when I was kicked out my home and
taken in by my high school football coach at Overland High school in Aurora Colorado.

I found myself unsure of whether I wanted to move back to California or accept the offer of moving in with my coach who was a stark contrast in race and cultural upbringing. After much deliberation and prayer, I chose the latter and paved his way through a promising high school football career and went on to play college football at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. My promising football career was ripped from me after a neck down injury that led me to depression and back to the drawing board with the direction of his future.

This unexpected injury made room for me to revisit my original passion for drama and the arts that began as a teenager when his brother encouraged me to be a part a church play. From that church play moment and beyond, I was hooked and looked for ways to be involved in drama and acting. I had no idea that something as simple as a church play, would shape and mold the frame of my life, while great tragedy would catapult me to the center of that frame and my future.

My passion for drama and acting lead me to explore ways to integrate drama and acting as tools that individuals could access for therapeutic expression, growth, and communication. There, I continuously found ways to hone my craft. Through many experiences this lead me to open my business, ”Curshion Jones Studios”. This has helped me to pursue film tv and television and sharing stories.

Through the pandemic, I have had the time to reflect on myself and my passion in making my dreams come to light. In 2021 I published my first book and went on my first book tour as an author. “Getting Through the Crisis: from Pain to Purpose” probably was the biggest reflection of myself. I have impacted many to put self-care and mental health first. In personal experience, I have seen the turmoil that one can do when they refuse to engage in discussion around this critical part of our existence. I hope to impart this education through a social-emotional curriculum for secondary education. This curriculum puts emphasis on mental health, positive self-image and fostering healthy relationships.

As an American film director, public speaker, producer and more recently, an author. I have partnered with companies such as Google, TD Jakes Enterprise, BET, The Potter’s House, Curls Beauty Brand, Boys & Girls Clubs etc. Through all my work, I have found that it is imperative that I act as an advocate and raise awareness and public consciousness surrounding mental health on behalf of countless people who have been silenced due to social stigmas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to get a shoutout to every person that took the time to invest in my purpose. Who took time to pray for me. That took the time to believe in the visions that God has given me.

I dedicate this to my legacy Ania Lane Jones and Curshion Royal Jones Jr. They have showed me patience, provided me with balance and showed me why my vision is possible!
