Meet Dame | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dame and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dame, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve been writing music since I was seven, and I used to actually draw and make my own comic books all the way up until my Junior year in High School where i started taking poetry and music a little more serious. Filmmaking really got a hold of me during High School too. I guess I was just always in my own creative mind since I can remember. I’ve always said my mind wanders too much creatively to be stuck at a cubicle.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I like to view my music as a mixture of old, new, and original. Music that draws from every genre I was raised around, Jazz, Rap, Soul, R&B- Hell, my harmonies i provide in my songs are straight from growing up in the church choir as a kid. Never really had the voice for a solo singer, but I can definitely harmonize and hold a note. With every song I do, i try to make it sound as original as possible. Trying not to sound like anyone but myself, but still also paying homage to the greats that came before us, outside of just Rap and Hip Hop as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, if they came to Fountain, CO, my hometown, we’re going to Hangry Ohana. Has great island food there and I try to go there as often as my pockets let me. I love to shoot pool, so any billiards hall in the Springs, we can hit up. Also doesn’t hurt to show your face in the music scene provided too. So, let’s hit up a Black Sheep show and support local talent and/or bigger artists kind enough to come down and rock with us. I love the outdoors too, so we can go to Garden of the Gods and see the Kissing Camels, Cave of the Winds, or drive out to Woodland Park and do simple stuff like Sightseeing. Colorado is a beautiful state. Growing up here, you try your best not to take it for granted and appreciate the views most people don’t get to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely want to shout out my parents and step parents. I wouldn’t even be doing this if they didn’t support and believe in me. My brother, Kenny Kadafi as well. He pushes me to be an even better and precise artist. Can’t forget about my boy Johnny Singels too. He keeps me motivated with the visual, and business side of the music, while also keeping everything together with our rollouts.
