We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Zhou and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
We zap away stress and prepare our children for a better future in an ever changing society. In a world where high schoolers outnumber counselors 500 to 1, or 1000 to 1 in California, students and their parents have nowhere to go for help concerning questions on which courses they should take for next year, which major to choose for college, and what colleges are the best fit.

The recent pandemic has only pulled at the threads and made things a lot more difficult for the future of our youth. As a result, we’ve seen epidemic rates of high school anxiety and depression, and all time highs in suicides among teenagers.

Hence, ReadyEdgeGo addresses the problem of high school stress by making the process easier and more directed. Students and their families get real-time analytics about their profile towards college, personalized recommendations on opportunities and classes, and ultimately, admissions into their best colleges and career paths.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
100% of our students have gone onto their dream colleges, so we are extremely good at college admissions and counseling – but what defines us is our emphasis on happiness. “One student at a time.” is our motto. We believe the high school journey and the road to college doesn’t have to be a one size fits all experience, overly stressful, or “get into a Top 50 or bust” mentality. No. Every kid is unique, each with their own interests and stories, so what makes ReadyEdgeGo different is that we focus on that to help a student cultivate their interests and explore new ones so that high school suddenly becomes exciting, simple, and inspiring. Because that’s what the world needs: people who are inspired and happy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where I live, the best time is spent outdoors, both in nature and in the city. In the San Francisco Bay Area, that would start with food: chowing down on a double-single at In-N-Out, having an Al Pastor burrito at Papa Pancho’s, and having fish tacos anywhere – we’d literally eat our way through every famous joint at every city in the bay. Next would be taking the scenic route up Highway 1, making pitstops at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Sam’s Chowder House, and then the Golden Gate Bridge. We’d then go camping southbound on Highway 1, breathing in the sights of the Pacific Ocean and stepping in soft sand with the dogs as we explore tide pools and rushing rivers alongside other travelers. Then off to Napa Valley for some of the best wine in the world to ponder about things, life, and the cosmos.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to all the passionate teachers and mentors in the world. Even just helping one other person for the sake of it can go a long way, and I’ve had the privilege of having great teachers in my life, from my dad and brother to sports coaches and professors. And lastly, a Huge Shoutout to the two guys in the red pickup truck for making two U-turns and stopping by to check up on me on that one cold December night. I was in the 9th grade and feeling all was lost, and their kindness not only saved my life from thoughts of suicide, but sparked in me a calling to help other strangers in need.
