Meet Daniel Crosier | Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Crosier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a freelance artist. It is like breathing. Of course I had to go out do creative endeavors with whatever opportunities that presented themselves. So I guess it was instinctual in that sense. Whether it is in the realm of comic books, film/tv, murals, illustration… making a mess. On the administrative side, I knew I would fall on my face. I needed to be okay with hard lessons and learn to learn from them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Failing is a lesson as I mentioned I have learned, and am still learning. Through that, I have learned to improvise in trying situations. Art is storytelling. It gives meaning to life and illuminates culture. It is a delightful loop. From that I am endeavor to illustrate comic books for kids, now, when I didn’t before. This is because I have nieces and nephews who can’t read my more adult horror fare. With that I am able to also work on events like the Colorado Festival of Horror, www.cofohorror.com. I mentioned I have worked in film and tv, whether that was docu series segments, short films or feature film mockumentaries. I always try to remain dynamic, and fine the humor in bad situations. It is tough. Going back to illustration and mural work, I have a heavy-handed, sometimes rough, line work which I have been told is similar to zentangle. I am OCD for lines and I love to fill in those areas as much as I can. The response for those who inhabit the spaces I paint in is usually joyful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d do coffee at Mutiny Cafe, my home away from home. There we’d disseminate new ideas and information. New creations will come about it. From there it is a road trip to Trinidad, CO to take in the area and scenery. If it is August we head further south east of Trinidad to see the Tarantula migration. Later we’ll drive back to Manitou Springs for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and free time it at the outdoor arcade. In Aurora, stop at the Mariachi food truck for breakfast, and have Korean bbq lunch! We’d catch a punk show, hopefully the Damned at the Ogden. We’d visit the the Denver Art Museum. Take in a couple films at any of the Alamo Drafthouses in the region. Take in more Mexican food on Federal Blvd. Most importantly, do an art project together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think this depends on what part of my life. It takes a village. My sculpting instructor from Rocky Mtn. College of Art & Design, Chuck Parson set me on the creative path. Cosplay artist Sam Marcus set me up with day jobs to supplement my income. Elisa Sargent, my girlfriend and partner in ongoing creative endeavors. I could go on.
