We had the good fortune of connecting with Esmeralda Orozco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esmeralda, what are you inspired by?
I know this answer might sound cliche but, I am inspired daily by this beautiful life I get to live. I have always loved crafting and losing myself in this form of creativity. It has always been a passion to find art to fit my identity. I say that life inspired me because life is fragile and if we do not spend it doing what we love we are not living to our full potential. I decided to take the risk and launch my small business after my dad (my first love) passed away in 2019. He was always so supportive of me. He collected art materials for me on his daily goodwill outings. He was always intrigued by my creativity and that inspires me to keep going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my work is very original. I hunt materials in all kinds of places and spaces. I can create from scratch or build on projects. When I started creating earrings I wanted to make sure people liked what I sold but, as I continued to work I understood that I was the creative. I was the one who decided what looked good and what didn’t. it was my art. My way of sharing my identity with others. That mindset lets me be proud of all my products because I know the intention behind every single one of them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
downtown, downtown, downtown!!! I would take them to the market because ive made friends with the barista there and they have fire coffee. I would then take them down to santa fe to “Green lady gardens” my favorite plant shop! they always have the best music playing and its basically a colorful greenhouse. after, we would go across the street to “recreative” its basically a thrift store for art materials!! we would then be able to do somewhere downtown and walk and talk. one of my favorite ways to bond with a loved one. I think I would then spend the rest of the week camping somewhere in the beautiful Colorado mountains. My favorite thing to do is wake up in nature and sip my boiling hot coffee. During camping I would go hiking and roast marshmallows. talk and talk and talk. my favorite thing to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My people. my family. my circle. These are the people who support and encourage me daily. My parents continuously build me up and when my dad passed I realized all the people who were going to be with me through thick and thin. Big shoutout to my husband who makes sure I’m comfortable and continuously creating.
