Meet Gabriella Mendoza | Founding Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriella Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriella, what do you attribute your success to?
The heart of my success has been trust. My clients know I’m their advocate from day one. I’ll listen intently, ask the right questions, and sweat the details so they can simply enjoy the process. That trust extends to my partnerships with contractors, artisans, and vendors, creating a team that’s as invested in the outcome as I am.
I’ve had clients tell me they feel a weight lift off their shoulders once I step in because they know I’m thinking ahead, anticipating challenges, and protecting their vision. That peace of mind is just as valuable as the finished space itself.
For Mavis Design, I’ve been intentional about creating a brand that feels both elevated and approachable, where timeless design meets the little touches that make a house feel like home. That balance is what keeps clients coming back and telling their friends, “You have to work with her.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is creating spaces that feel as good to live in as they are to look at. As a kitchen and bath designer, I believe beauty and function should work hand in hand. I think as much about how a space will be used every day as I do about how it will look when it is finished. That balance is what sets Mavis Design apart.
I started in the trades, painting houses as a teenager, and worked my way up through different roles in the design and construction world before returning to school to earn my degree and certifications. The journey has not always been easy, but persistence, curiosity, and a willingness to take on challenges have shaped me into the designer I am today.
From the very beginning, my focus has always been the client. I listen closely, ask the right questions, and translate their vision into something tangible and lasting. The proudest moments are when a client walks into their completed space and feels instantly at home — because that means I have captured not just their style, but their spirit.
What I want the world to know about Mavis Design is that my work is never about imposing my own style. It is about creating spaces that inspire confidence, comfort, and connection, with every detail chosen to reflect the people who live there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, we would make the most of Colorado’s variety from stunning scenery to comfort food favorites.
We would kick things off with a day in Denver at the art museum, then head to Red Rocks for a morning hike and breathtaking views, followed by lunch in Morrison. Another day, we might keep it lighthearted and wander through IKEA, ending with a casual lunch there because sometimes the simple things are the most fun.
For evenings out, I would make sure they experienced some of my favorite dinners at places like Pappadeaux, Maggiano’s, or Fogo de Chão. Midweek, we would spend a day of pure nostalgia and fun at Lakeside Amusement Park, and then cool off at Water World on another day.
We would also get out of town for some nature time, kayaking and camping at Eleven Mile Lake, hiking at Lair of the Bear, and making the trip to Nederland for the Hidden Lake trail, which is an absolute gem.
The week would be a mix of adventure, good food, and a few offbeat favorites, because that is exactly how I love to experience Colorado myself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without an incredible circle of support. First and foremost, my family has believed in me through every pivot and risk, even when the path was not clear. My dad especially has been a constant encourager, always reminding me to keep going when things get hard.
I also owe a huge thanks to the professors and mentors from my time at Front Range Community College. Their guidance not only gave me the technical skills to succeed, but also the confidence to chase opportunities I never would have thought possible.
To my clients, thank you for trusting me with your homes, your time, and your vision. Your trust fuels my creativity, and your excitement when you see your finished space is the best reward I could ask for.
Finally, the network of contractors, vendors, and fellow designers I collaborate with turn ideas into reality every single day. The magic in a finished project is always the result of many hands and minds working together. I am so grateful for every person who has helped me build Mavis Design into what it is today.
