We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Abern and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For the longest time I thought something was “wrong with me” because I could never answer the “ what do you want to be when you grow up” everyone was always so set on their career path but I always bounced around never knowing where I would fall, once becoming a mother and taking a step out of the work force I decided either I had to create my own job, or simply wait until all the kids were in school. My lifelong friend Joscelynn had become pregnant and asked me for a bunch of advice. I decided to type it all up that way she wouldn’t forget (because ya know mom brain) this my blog was born. I still have that email and it contained over 8000 words of “ what you really need for a baby”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was growing up I never could answer that “what do you want me be when you grow up” question that everyone always asks. Honestly it’s probably because not only was it not created yet, but also because I never full heartedly loved anything, I loved lots of things but the only true thing that ever interested me was writing & reading. So I think what stands me apart from others in the blogging and influencing world is that I truly show up to make a difference I’m not a run of the mill share all my ootds and Starbucks (though that gets thrown in there too because there is nothing wrong with that) but I share ways to reduce waste, reduce toxins and over all stop sending every little thing to the landfill. On top of that I’m super open about mental health, eating disorders ect. I try to create a safe space for my followers so not only do they not feel judged they feel like they are apart of the journey, rather than just watching it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh I actually just moved here in February, so please locals dm me some good spots!! I’d have to say the “mustard stand” in Denver has amazing burgers, hotdogs and fries! I’m a sucker for basic American meals, but I also am a huge fan of Mexican so the “south of the boarder” I believe it’s called is super good too. As a family we love going and seeing the animals about so the Denver zoo and downtown aquarium was so fun
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dana, @sagehealing has always been a huge inspiration to me. Between her motivational speeches she does on stories & post or her 1:1 sessions. She is always growing, learning and in return nurturing the minds around her. Myself included.
