We had the good fortune of connecting with Hilary Hadden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hilary, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite books is called More than Enough by Elaine Welteroth. Elaine is a journalism icon and role model. Her book is a must read, women’s anthem about claiming our space for who we are as women. It’s one that I’ve read and re-read. One of my favorite quotes from the book is – “If we aren’t vigilant, we can move through our entire lives feeling smaller than we actually are — by playing it safe, by unconsciously giving away our power, by dimming our radiance, by not recognizing there is always so much more waiting for us on the other side of fear. But when we are brave enough — to go there, to grab what we want, and tap into who we are — damn, it feels so good.” This quote stood out to me and continues to inspire me in my career working in the marketing and creative strategy industry. It has never served me to be meek and complacent, working in a silo. While definitely the easier route, it’s important to push myself and get comfortable with being uncomfortable to excel. The feeling of true accomplishment I’ve found is in collaboration, seeking mentorship and surrounding myself with other radiant go-getters. I’m constantly inspired by others in the industry and learning the best ways to communicate through marketing messages in a diverse and inclusive manner to all groups.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
AOR, Inc. is a local branding, digital and marketing strategy firm. Our mission is to grow brands, create impact, and champion people. We help develop and activate brands that focus on connection, community, communication, and experience — which inspires us to create an environment that allows people, relationships, and our best work to thrive. We pride ourselves on being professional problem solvers, original thinkers and nice people! I am most proud of working for an agency that truly is people first by design.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I could go on and on regarding this topic. As the agency proclaimed, best “lady about town”, I truly love where I live, work and play. I would start at some Denver staples, visiting the restaurants and boutiques under the lights on Larimer Square, followed by all of the unique, hip and hyper local vendors at Denver’s Union Station and the Dairy Block. I would make sure to visit the RiNo neighborhood to showcase all of the very cool street art and hidden gem spots – particularly the Be a Good Person clothing store and my favorite lounge/community space, Honey Elixir! Our agency is located in the Golden Triangle neighborhood which is the perfect transition to Denver’s art scene. I would visit the Denver Art Museum, Clifford Still Museum and Kirkland Museum of Fine Art to name a few. Followed by lunch at the best kept secret in the neighborhood, Parsley. Finally, we would wind up in my neighborhood, Uptown, for a jog around Cheeseman park and cocktails at Humbolt with a trip ending nightcap at the Horseshoe Lounge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many folks have been integral to my success in Denver over my ten year tenure and career. My first shoutout is Elena Lippincott. She is the Director of Client Services for our agency. She works tirelessly to nurture our clients through strategic thinking, is constantly on top of trends and does what’s truly best for our partners, which isn’t always the easy thing. Secondly, Ashley Stiles with Tribe Development has been a wonderful mentor, support and client. She is a minority and woman owned business powerhouse. Her projects have pushed me to think about how we market multi family developments and creating a sense of place for the communities we work in. The importance of community listening and delivering products that resonate with the residents or visitors in our neighborhoods that are currently in place already is the most important and often overlooked first step.
