We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
There’s so much joy in knowing you have found something that you are a part of that makes a difference in the lives of others. Peyton’s Potion is the name of my company and product that began during my son, Peyton’s, cancer treatment for childhood leukemia. It’s an effective, safe and uplifting multipurpose cleaner made with 100% organic essential oils. After learning about the many toxins from the chemotherapy medicines Peyton would receive and seeing the impact they had on his body, I wanted to minimize any toxins that could be in his environment. In addition, he needed to have everything around him really clean because he was immunocompromised. As I set out to find a cleaner that was as effective as it was safe, nothing met my criteria. Every cleaner, even the one’s claiming to be “green”, had at least one ingredient that was harmful in some way. I learned from a national pediatric cancer website that household cleaning products contain some of the most dangerous ingredients in our environment and that overtime the exposure to these ingredients can have detrimental effects on our health. Since the ideal cleaner didn’t exist, we set about to create it. I decided on botanicals over other ingredients like vinegar, because of their powerful anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties and because of their aromatherapeutic benefits. It needed to smell good to Peyton, because the chemotherapy made him sensitive to smells, so Peyton helped to create Peyton’s Potion with a blend that smelled great to him. Later we had our blend reformulated by an exceptional essential oil company, Pranarom USA, using only the highest quality essential oils, meaning only organic. Organic farming and cultivation of plants ensures the safest farming practices for the workers as well as creating the healthiest plants. In this way, the farmer nor the customer are exposed to pesticides. Pesticides are known to cause cancer among other health-related issues. Peyton’s Potion helps with the health and wellness of people on a global scale as well as within the many homes, office, schools and health care settings where Peyton’s Potion is the staple go-to cleaner. Peyton’s Potion also contributes to a world-scale need, that of childhood cancer research. With every bottle of Peyton’s Potion, we donate 5% of profits to childhood cancer research through the organization CureSearch. CureSearch funds research for every type of childhood cancer. Our customers actively support funding the research for the second leading cause of death in children from the ages of 1-14.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? What sets you apart from others?
I think what sets our cleaner apart from other cleaners is that our essential oils are organic and we are the only cleaning product that donates proceeds to childhood cancer research. Additionally, I think that the current pandemic underscores the importance of the work we are doing at Peyton’s Potion, that of providing the world an extremely safe and effective cleaner that has the added benefit of uplifting your mood when you use it. We need both physical and mental wellness, especially right now in the world. Our spritzer size can be taken anywhere and used on the go to keep your hands and environment clean. Whereas so many cleaners cause headaches and do not have properties that uplift your mood, our customers love using Peyton’s Potion because it makes them happy.

How have you overcome challenges?
When we first created Peyton’s Potion during Peyton’s cancer treatment we had to be patient in our desire to develop the company because our main focus was of course supporting Peyton in his cancer treatment, which lasted three and a half years. So patience was our main challenge. Now, we have partners and the greatest challenge we have now is still patience; patience with the time it takes to scale up. I want everyone using our cleaner and I want to help childhood cancer research more and more.
What do I want the world to know about me/brand/story?
I love this question. Our Peyton’s Potion team wants everyone to be healthy, to understand how what we use to clean our environment with is as important as what we put into our bodies and that this is important everyday. We also want to share what it’s like for a children who experience childhood cancer, to understand that more and more children are being diagnosed with cancer every year and to be a part of helping children have less side effects from the chemotherapies and ultimately to end childhood cancer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because Peyton received his cancer treatment in Denver for three and a half years, we do have our favorites places to eat and things to do that we can recommend. One of Peyton’s favorite restaurants is Junz in Parker, CO, for Japanese food. We love the beignet’s at Lucile’s. One of our families favorite places to visit is the Botanical gardens. It was such a healing balm for us all, but mostly for Peyton, after a day of chemotherapy. We live in the mountains near Aspen, so we recommend visiting that area of Colorado. Our favorite hikes are Hanging Lake and Crystal Mill. During

Peyton’s cancer treatment he always wanted to go to IFLY Denver, an indoor skydiving in Parker. Since he couldn’t then, we got him that for his 20th birthday this year. He loved it and could have done it all day!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to the following who have greatly helped in our success: Without question, my husband, Peyton’s father, Noel Armstrong. He has been our number one supporter of Peyton’s Potion and the one we owe the biggest thanks to. He has worked tirelessly so that we could have the ability to create and develop Peyton’s Potion. Next, our partners Joshua Margolis and Meghan Brosnan have brought us to the success we have today. They have the biggest hearts and excel in their individual talents and work ethic. And of course, I want to thank all of our customers who are an attestation of our success, as they have shared how much they love Peyton’s Potion and feel happier and healthier because of using it. I want to thank CureSearch for their encouragement of Peyton’s Potion over the years and for our partnership with them on a national level. And of course, for all they have done to help children survive cancer. And then I also want to mention the book that made me decide to take Peyton’s Potion from just a cleaner in our home to a way to raise awareness about childhood cancer and fund the research for it. The book is “Love, Medicine and Miracles” by Bernie Siegel MD. In his book he shares a study that showed that patients who advocate for their disease have better chances for survival.
