We had the good fortune of connecting with Jubal Fulks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jubal, how does your business help the community?
I’m a violin professor at a university, which means that I mostly teach private 1-hour lessons each week to college-level violinists. These weekly meetings, thirty times per year over the course of several years, have an enormous impact on the personal and professional development of these young musicians. We also have a weekly studio class, where we develop a strong sense of community and learn how to perform in public and speak to colleagues in productive and helpful ways to support their musical and technical growth. These students then go on to produce and influence the next generation of young violinists, and we become part of the beautiful cycle of violin pedagogy through the centuries!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing that sets me apart form many violinists is the fact that I perform on both modern and baroque violin. I am most proud of my two chamber ensembles: the Colorado Piano Trio and Sinfonia Spirituosa. the Trio has performed all over the US and at Carnegie Hall, and Sinfonia Spirituosa is a baroque chamber orchestra featuring period wind and string instruments. I got to where I am professionally by having great teachers and sheer hard work in the practice room. It was not easy! But the key for me was to learn to love practicing scales, which are absolutely essential for anyone wanting to play a string instrument at a high level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely try to take them for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, visit Strawberry Hot Springs outside of Steamboat Springs, and Glenwood Springs. I guess I like hot springs!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Edward W Hardy is a DA student at the University of Northern Colorado. Even before attending UNC, Eddie had built up an impressive resume of recordings, compositions, publications, and even produced an off-Broadway show in New York City!
