We had the good fortune of connecting with Kjerstin Davies and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kjerstin, how does your business help the community or world?
Our nonprofit’s main focus is to make bereaved kids across the nation feel loved and not forgotten. We provide bereaved siblings with an experience or gift that we hope will create a positive memory to help them throughout their grief journey. We provide bereaved children with a care package to remind them that they are not alone. We also have a grief therapy stipend program for kids who need therapy/counseling services. We recently began a program called Charlie’s Clubhouse as well that matches children with a peer who has experienced a similar loss so they can connect with other children who have lost a loved one. In addition to reaching bereaved siblings we also provide a gift for children with a sibling in the NICU. When a child has a sibling in the NICU often times they aren’t able to meet them until weeks or months later. We provide these kids with an item to help occupy them while they wait that also reminds them that they are loved and special.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are not many organizations that support bereaved siblings specifically. We wanted to create an organization that provided something special for these kids because their loss is so tremendous. We loved the idea of creating positive memories because so many memories and thoughts after the loss of a child or sibling become sad. That’s grief. Providing an opportunity for a child to receive something special, something to look forward to, and something to remember is how we wanted to respond to our loss and our grief.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m thankful for my parents for helping me develop a sound mind and my sisters for helping me develop a strong faith (whether they realize that or not). I have many former colleagues who continue to encourage me, my children who continue to inspire me, and my husband who always supports me. Every person in my life has had an influence one way or the other in my life and I simply could not list them all here.
