We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucie Dedkova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
These things naturally happen with work experience and seeing potential on the market and my case wasn’t any different. I worked for over 10 years as a graphic designer/director for various agencies, employers, and specific brands. During this time I was able to identify the market gaps and issues. I listened to the clients, their problems, and challenges and because of that diversed angle of view on the same topic, I was able to come up with the solution. The main issue is that clients majority of the time do not receive essential services for them to be able to succeed. Especially when they partner with busy agencies time management becomes a real challenge. The whole branding creation process is very complex where each step matters. Unfortunately failing on a proper process introduction slowly shifts from practice to a habit. Another issue is the usage of terminology. Sure, there is a common language used by the industry which is understandable to the agencies on one end, but honestly, they usually don’t have the capacity to educate clients properly. Then clients can get easily lost during such an important time for them, as a creation of their “baby” is, and might be even feeling shopped and unsupported.

That’s pretty much why I decided to start with my own branding and website design studio. I do care about people and their stories they want to share through their brand/product. I am providing design services for start-ups or rebranding. I specialize in brand strategy, logo & branding design, website design, and digital marketing. You can check out more about my process on my website: https://lucied.ca/brand-building-process. On top of that I am offering additional services, such as photography, copywriting, video and motion graphics, and printing – for that I always love to work with local partners. My “aim-result” recipe is so that my clients can fully focus on their personal lives, family, hobbies and running their business.

Graphic and web design for me is more than a job. I love it and at the same time is like a hobby I am passionate about. I always treat my clients like they’re a part of the family, when I say you’ll have my full attention, I mean it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, it was a long way. But I love what I do and I always like to learn new things. Since ever I was a child I liked art. I studied art basically from elementary school up to the university. I keep myself up to date with all the industry trends and take various courses and lessons. I studied web design and the motion graphic design industry, and recently I graduated in digital marketing with a specialization in SEO. It was not always easy, to keep motivated and push myself, but in the end, it just feels so good and satisfying when I have so much to offer and share with my clients.

The most important lesson that I learned and I am running my business by is that you always have to be listening to a client’s needs, being a good partner to them, asking them relevant questions, and doing a lot of research prior to the project to make their brand unique.

What do I want the world to know about my studio?

That we are a creatively and technically skilled design studio driven by passion and hungry for new challenges. Our core value is in finding creative and innovative ways of design that have the power to capture hearts, inspire others and deliver exceptional business results. We value a strong long-term personal relationship with our clients and offer full-service solutions fuelled by creativity and quality, which are always our top priorities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Vancouver, BC, and I love this city since I visited it for the first time. I live here for more than 6 years and still didn’t discover everything, as Vancouver has so many things to offer. I adore camping and hiking and the wild nature which is so close to the city. Vancouver has many beaches, great restaurants which serve a wide variety of foods from different countries, amazing cultural life and so many activities which you can do during day/night.

This list would be really long and one week is not enough to see it all 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In the first place, I would like to thank my parents, who always supported me and helped me to find the right way in achieving my goals. Then I would like to thank my fiancé, family and friends, who are my best critics so that way, I can keep improving my skills. And last but not least, my teachers, previous colleagues, mentors and all my clients…
