We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisol Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisol, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was about 8 months pregnant, with a full time job. Around Mid June of 2021, I started to work from home since my delivery hospital was about 45 minutes away so I stayed with my mom while my husband went to work. I have always been a person that needs to constantly be busy. I wasnt working my usual hours, I kept getting frustrated everyday with just sitting around after my shift was over and I mentioned that to my husband and he remembered that I had previously done chocolate covered strawberries for mother’s day so he suggested to start taking orders to sell again on a daily basis. So I did, he has been a huge support and one to refer either co workers, friends, and family which then bring more customers, and wow! Let me tell you the rest of my pregnancy I was a busy momma, orders coming in left and right, it was unbelievable. The best thing about it is I was doing what I love, making sweet treats. Eventually after giving birth I took about a month off and went back to it selling my sweet treat either small orders and even for some parties, which by the way difficult with a newborn but very fun. I eventually got into offering more services such as, customized shirts, decals, snowglobe tumblers, custom cold cups, and my personal favorite now making floral bouquets. Many always ask how do you have time with that on top of your full time job and taking care of your baby and my answer is always ,” its my me time, I love what I do it helps my mental health, this is my way to release any stress so of course I have time for me”. So here I am 25 years old with a Full time job, full time mom, and a small business owner and loving it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud of myself by all the hard work I have put into my business while still being able to be a full time office manager at my job. It hasn’t been easy but everything ends up working out, I am able to put time aside to fulfill my orders and be able to have time for my 8 month old baby, who always puts a smile on my face even on my worst days. I want people to understand that you can still be a full time employee, mom and business owner. Anything and everything is possible with motivation, keep pushing keep striving for more!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend Deisy Campos to Colorado Springs to eat at Don Guillo Puerto Rican Native Cuisine, they serve big portions of some of their comfort foods their most classic and my personal favorite dish is pernil, arroz mamposteado, and amarillos. Let me tell you it is to die for! This is my favorite place to eat and when I have a chance I introduce this place to family and friends, I can go on and on about their food and I always leave people wanting to try it. Colorado Springs is the perfect place to visit amazing sites like Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, Manitou Incline, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Whitewater Rafting, Ziplining, among other incredible attractions.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My son 8 month old Yadriel Lopez, my husband Josue Lopez, and my mother Josefina Saucedo.
