We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Mras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style.” – Maya Angelou
This quote holds a lot of meaning for me as I have endured and thrived through a traumatic brain injury, breast cancer and other major life events. This quote has become my anthem of standing for who I am, not apologizing for what I am not, while I embrace and enhance my inert gifts to become the best version of me… Unapologetically.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business as a professional speaker and coach began as an accident, literally. In 2014, I was involved in an automobile accident that left me with a traumatic brain injury affecting 4 areas of my brain. I was left unable to speak or function without assistance for just over 18 months. I lost many memories and entire years of my life. When I began speaking and moving on my own, I was accepted to speak on the TEDx stage and joined the John Maxwell Team (JMT). Soon after, I wrote a book based on my TEDx: Eat, Drink & Be Mary – A glimpse into a life well lived. In 2016, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had a bi-lateral mastectomy. I wrote my second book, It’s Not Luck – Overcoming You, then won the JMT Culture Award for Attitude. I was also recognized by the Women Economic Forum of New Delhi, India with the Woman of Excellence Award for Inspiration. Once I travelled to India, my speaking and Coaching career grew exponentially. Was it easy? Not at all. Did I use the stress to propel me to pursue my life passion? Indeed. It is my life passion to help guide others to live their best life. I learned that life is truly short and fragile. Don’t waste our precious time apologizing for what we aren’t. Be the best version of ourselves everyday and to do so unapologetically. The events that occurred as I built my speaking and coaching career proved to me that regardless of what occurs in life, we choose how we react. Byron Katie has a fabulous quote I love to paraphrase in times of stress, “There are three types of business in this universe: mine, yours, God.” Control what is with your control.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have been part of my journey. First of all, my husband, children and my friends who have become family. Toastmasters International – District 26; The John Maxwell Team; Dr. Paul Scheele and his team at Scheele Learning Systems; Harmonized Brain Centers of Colorado; the staff at Ft Carson and the Air Force Academy hospitals; particularly Dr. Blake, PA Yarmer, Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Wilcox, Dr. Henderson, Dr. Smith and every one of their prospective teams.
When I am down, I read Illusions by Richard Bach. When I want a reminder that with the pain of life, there is unsurmountable beauty, I read The Shack. by William P Young.
