We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Elery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is truly being and living it.
“Walking the talk”, as I say.

What I mean by that is, humans talk a lot about what they want and what they know. But when it comes to taking action, this is where how much we know and how much we want something really get put to the test.

It doesn’t really matter how much we know or how much we want something if we aren’t willing to work for it or do anything about it. I have put the effort into my life, my health, my athletic ventures, and my career — not perfectly, but consistently over time. And because of that, I believe I’ve become a strong representative and example for those around me because I put in the work. I do the things I talk about.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I always say, I wear a lot of hats. I actually graduated with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2016 and practiced for several years before I decided to move to Colorado to pursue working with people with disabilities in the functional fitness realm. Covid became a barrier, and I decided to start online coaching as a nutritionist with my background as a high-level Crossfit athlete and with my own personal knowledge and success saw an opportunity to help people in a holistic way.

I quit R.Elery Coaching three times in 2 years. Running my own business was hard! And I didn’t have thick enough skin, yet. But one day I hopped back in and never looked back. 3 years in and 200+ clients later, I’m so glad I didn’t give up.

I am also Co-Founder of a start-up company called Vitruvion, which is a genomics and biodata analytics company that supports healthcare providers, practitioners, and coaches by providing them a precise and individualized plan for their clientele in regards to their lifestyle, nutrition, and overall health optimization.

I keep saying this, but sometimes I truly don’t know how I got here. I feel so excited everyday at the possibility of what that day in particular holds. Life has always shown me how fragile and also how opportunistic it can be. It takes one small act, encounter, or time lapse for a whole trajectory to unfold. I love that about life more than I fear that about life. I think that’s why I ended up here, as an entrepreneur. I never even positioned that title in my top 20 career choices, and then just kind of fell into it on accident.

You asked if it was easy to get where I am today business-wise.
HECK no.
Nothing about it was or is easy. But that’s why I love it. I love learning, I love growing, and I love getting the opportunity to be better than I was yesterday. It’s easy to quit things. I was a quitter for a long time in a lot of areas of my life. But I learned to overcome the mental barriers by staying firmly planted DESPITE the challenges. That’s when I learned confidence and how to stand firm in what I knew, and that there was actual value in those.

I believe there is nothing more rewarding than the hardest things we choose in life. Think of the things you’re most proud of. Having a child, graduating college, or being married. We aren’t proud because we get full step-by-step instructions and do it all perfectly. No. We are proud because they’re often the hardest things we’ll do. And that brings great accomplishment and satisfaction when we overcome things to see a greater purpose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh. I’ve lived in Denver for 3 years and I can’t say I get out and about in the city much, but I would absolutely take my friends to some of my favorite coffee spots (Corvus, Queen City, Stella’s. Steam, etc), do a nice Wash Park or Sloans Lake walk and park day with lots of volleyball. We would go hike in Golden and Red Rocks (maybe stop over for a show!) and go check out some local musicians and artists. There would be lots of cooking food together (duhhh) and maybe getting out for a drive to the mountains.

Nothing too crazy 😉

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is a collective thank you: to those who I’ve loved and who I have been loved by.
To those who raised me, and to those who took me in and passed me along throughout the years of my life that I hopped from state to state, place to place, and home to home.
I have been very mobile and dynamic in my adult years, and I wouldn’t be who I am without the support of those who gave me a coach to sleep on, a shoulder to cry on, a warm meal or a warm hug.

I do what I do now so that I can be all the things I listed above for those I love and care about, too. They changed my life.
