We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah and Joe Caston and Denny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah and Joe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Luminous Hair Studio started as a conversation between Joe and Sarah one night when they were discussing what changes to the typical salon they would make if they could. and how they wanted to create a community that felt like family and that made people feel at home. What started as a simple conversation quickly picked up steam and then they started to wonder if this could actually be a possibility. They had been looking for a new challenge and a way to grow in their career beyond where they were and opening their own salon proved a worthy challenge.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
LUMINOUS started with an honest conversation over wine one night. As professionals in the industry we have loved for several years, we wanted to make sure we were making an impact. We wondered what we could do to add to it. At the same time, we both realized we had been walking through the same doors for far too long and we were both ready for new challenges and adventure. If we were to open a salon, what could we do to make it special? We truly wanted to make our new salon someplace where people could come and get high-end, luxury hair services from some of the best service providers in the city, but we also wanted to create a place where people can come and feel like family, where connections are made and where our clients have the freedom to be themselves — a place that radiates light into the world. That’s the moment LUMINOUS was born.
“Light” was a word that resonated with us. As we researched salon lighting, we were reminded that the word for the measurement of light is “lumen.” We looked at the word “LUMINOUS” and incorporated a sacred geometry symbol into our brand — something important to both of us. Our symbol has curved lines that represent feminine energy and straight lines that represent masculine energy. Our name is now actually two words — Lumin and Us — connected by a symbol that is representative of us both. This is now our mantra and this is our mission. Light Us. It means even more now that we are opening coming out of such a dark time. We hope that every person who spends time in our space leaves with a lighter step with the light within them renewed and able to shine a little brighter. It is our hope that we all … STAY LUMINOUS!
Luminous – adjective
Full of or shedding light; bright or shining, especially in the dark.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Top of the list for both of us would be a concert at Red Rocks top 3 restauraunts are El Five, Angelos and Odyssey
Biking around and hitting every great brewery with a patio
Night out at Charlies for dancing because… who doesnt love drag queen
if we make it out of the city (and let’s face it, were city people) we might head up to aspen to check out maroon bells and hit Glenwood Hot springs on the way
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every Hairstylist becomes who they are because of all the support theyve recieved along the way. Starting with the beauty school they learned at, the salon that first believed in their growth, the teachers and mentors along the way and last but certainly not least, the beautiful people that sat in their chair throughout the years. We’re thankful for every single person that has supported us along the way, especially through the opening of our new salon during the pandemic
