We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Schaefer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, why did you pursue a creative career?
Initially my career started as a hobby. I started with landscape photography because landscapes aren’t difficult to pose and don’t talk back to you. The problem with landscape photography, though, is that it doesn’t pay well. I personally don’t think that anyone pursues a career in photography for the money, its more about the passion of it all rather than the paycheck. I love being able to show people different places that they may have only seen in their dreams. My goal is to motivate others to travel and see the world. If I could spend my life traveling and capturing it all on my camera, I would.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a landscape photographer and have been for a few years now. My style is what sets me apart the most. I have an eye for composition and my images are incredibly vibrant. What also sets me apart is my willingness to hike all day through most conditions to get “the shot.” I am most proud of how far I have come in terms of editing. Even just a year ago, I would edit pictures and increase the saturation so much that the places that I photographed barely looked real. I have grown so much since then and so has my photography. I’ve gotten where I am by staying confident about my work and knowing that it is worth the time and effort even though it doesn’t always make me money. I’ve learned that I can accomplish anything and that my photography will only continue to improve with time. I want people to see my photos and to be inspired to travel, even If It’s just outside of their hometown.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them on a road trip to the San Juan mountain range which is about six hours southwest of Denver. We would stay in Ouray and I would take them to several bars and restaurants in the area. During the day we could either hike the Ice Lakes Basin Trail or the Blue Lakes Trail depending on the current conditions. Other than that, Colorado has many fun things to include visiting Meow Wolf, hiking In Rocky Mountain National Park, and having a drink at the arcade bar, 1UP.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my beautiful wife Gabby deserves recognition. She is extremely supportive and has been there through my triumphs and my failures. She motivates me to do reach beyond limitations that I set for myself and she makes me think critically. She is also an artist who is focusing on digital art currently. Her Instagram is @crash.and.burn_art. Her art is phenomenal and so is she.
