“Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do.” – Steve Jobs Growing up in Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs was a legend as a marketer. But more importantly, he took risks to do something truly great. Some define their career by the money they make or how large their company can grow, but I have always been guided by impact. What impact can I have on the world and how can the needle be moved in a positive way to help inspire others to change the world as well? Whenever I am creating, that is the question I ask and it always leads to quality impactful work that comes from the heart. Read more>

In 2014, Oprah gave a talk to the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She ended her talk by discussing what to do when you feel overwhelmed by challenge. She advised “The way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself, ‘What is the next right move?’ Not think about, ‘Ooh, I got all of this to figure out.’ And then from that space, make the next right move and the next right move … then you won’t be overwhelmed by it, because you know your life is bigger than that one moment.” I first heard this talk when I was feeling stuck in my job as a faculty member and counselor at a community college. I was up for tenure and was overwhelmed by the prospect of staying in one job until retirement. What I realized in listening to Oprah’s words was that I was so focused on the “what-ifs” that I was missing my internal compass. When I started connecting with that stillness I found my inner voice, telling me it that this tenure role was for someone else who really wanted it and that person was not me. Read more>>

“Be the energy you want to receive” This resonates with me truly to my core. What you are putting out in this world will come back to you ten fold. How you start your day, how you interact with those around you, how you view a challenge in front of you.. How you look at it and the energy you put into it will be what you receive back. Read more>>

The Roman philosopher Seneca once said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” This particular quote resonates with me because a lot of people have told me I am lucky to be a full time artist. I am very lucky, but that luck comes from a lot of preparation, study, humility, patience, work and recognizing an opportunity when it presents itself. Read more>>

With starting this business I really leaned into a couple of phrases / quotes that have struck a nerve with me in the past. The first is, “Celebrate Everything”. Big wins, little wins, everything. I think that people especially need this now, after the crazy year that we’ve had. We haven’t been able to celebrate in the same way that we have historically, so my intention with this business is to help encourage people celebrate in a creative way. Another quote that resonates with me, is “Feel the fear, and do it anyway.” The truth is, nobody knows what they’re doing. We’re all just trying to do our best with what we have. It is incredibly daunting to consider starting a business — amidst a pandemic, no less— and going out on your own to try something new. The reality is, when you pour your heart and soul into something that you’re passionate about, that venture will bear fruit and it’s incredibly rewarding. Read more>>

“Show me someone not full of herself and I’ll show you a hungry person.” – Nikki Giovanni I was hungry all my life, full of everyone else’s ideas of who I should be, why I should be, and what I should do with my time on this earth. Sometimes, I still get caught in the trap of trying to be what everyone else needs me to be. But, for the most part, I took the time to discover myself, all the good, bad, uncomfortable, and have learned to be full of all that I am. I’ve learned to enjoy my own company, I’ve learned to honor myself, I’ve learned to own my story and my power, in spite of my failures or shortcomings…and although I’m still facing my insecurities, I’ve learned to embrace every part of me. Living in California in 1992 I hired a Sports Psychologist to talk to a group of high school students I was working with for the summer. He handed out a small 2.5″ x 2.5″ card that says “Attitude is a Decision” and I have carried it with me ever since. It’s torn and tattered, been taped a few times but I am looking at it right now as it’s taped to my computer screen. It reminds me every day that I have control of my attitude, and therefore, my day. Life is going to be filled with many ups and downs, but every morning when you wake up, you have the opportunity to make a decision on how you want to tackle that day and anything that comes along. “Take messy action.” As creatives and entrepreneurs, we often become paralyzed and pressured into putting out a perfect product. The photo, the Instagram post, the website – it will never be perfect! And that is 100% okay. Our clients aren’t looking for us to be perfect, they’re looking for someone who will show up and fulfill their needs. Messy, authentic, action is always better than perfect inaction. Read more>>

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” — Henry Ford This quote is a beautiful reminder that mindset is everything. If we consistently set our intentions and remind ourselves of where or what or who we want to be, it will come to life. We create our own realities. Nothing can stop a strong mindset dialed in to our true self. Read more>>
