Meet Abbey Campbell | Doctor of Physical Therapy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbey Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abbey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own cash-based physical therapy clinic for both adults and pediatrics was the result of several key realizations and experiences over time. First and foremost, I recognized that the traditional insurance-based model often limited the quality of care I could provide. With the time constraints, billing limitations, and administrative burdens, I felt that patients weren’t always receiving the individualized, high-quality therapy they truly needed—especially children and complex adult cases who require more specialized attention.
I wanted to create a space where the focus could return to the patient, not the paperwork. A cash-based model offered that flexibility. It allows for longer sessions, direct one-on-one care, and more autonomy in treatment planning. It also fosters a stronger therapist-patient relationship and better outcomes because the care is personalized, unhurried, and not dictated by insurance codes.
I also saw a gap in my community—families were seeking high-quality pediatric services, and many adults were frustrated by rushed, generalized care. I wanted to bridge that gap by offering a clinic that caters to both groups under one roof, providing continuity for families and care that evolves as patients grow or recover.
Finally, from a professional standpoint, I was motivated by a desire for independence, creativity, and a values-driven approach to practice. Owning my clinic allows me to shape the culture, invest in ongoing education, and build a team aligned with a patient-first philosophy. Additionally, it allows me to have a better work- life balance. I get to treat my patients with the care that they deserve, but then I also get to be there for my two young children when they need me!

What should our readers know about your business?
One of the things that truly sets my physical therapy clinic apart is our unique ability to serve both pediatric and adult patients under one roof. I have a passion to serve patients across the lifespan. I use a combination of hands-on expertise, movement analysis, and specialized integrative techniques that allow me to treat the whole person.
Additionally, I’m trained in Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)—a gentle yet powerful approach that addresses fascial restrictions in the body and head, often related to birth trauma, injuries, or chronic tension. This technique is especially impactful for pediatric patients, but it has profound effects on adults as well, helping with nervous system regulation, tension headaches, feeding difficulties, and more.
This dual focus allows families to bring their children and loved ones to a single, trusted provider, creating consistency, convenience, and a stronger therapeutic relationship. Whether it’s helping a child meet developmental milestones or supporting an adult through post-surgical rehab, we tailor our treatments with the same level of specialized care, compassion, and clinical excellence.
My holistic approach not only supports each individual’s (or parent’s) goals, but also recognizes the role that family dynamics, environment, and long-term wellness play in recovery and growth. I pride myself on personalized care, one-on-one attention, and creating a space where all ages feel seen, heard, and supported.
I started my career working in the traditional outpatient, insurance-based model, where I gained invaluable experience but often felt limited by time constraints and billing demands. That led me to explore the cash-based clinic world, where I could provide more personalized, one-on-one care. From there, I transitioned into pediatric home health.
During the height of COVID, former orthopedic patients started reaching out to me on LinkedIn and personal social media, asking if I could treat them at home because they no longer felt safe going into clinics. It was out of those conversations and that need that my mobile physical therapy business was born.
For the next 3.5 years, I built and ran a mobile practice, treating both adult orthopedic patients while maintaining a pediatric home health caseload. As word spread, I reached capacity and knew it was time to evolve again.
With the encouragement of my friends at Rowenhorst Chiropractic, who knew of an open office space in their building in Erie, CO, I took the leap and transitioned from mobile to a brick-and-mortar clinic. This move allowed me to not only continue serving my adult orthopedic clients but to expand into outpatient pediatric care as well—combining all the areas I’m passionate about under one roof.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Erie Colorado is a wonderful community that is filled with great things to do- from community events to open spaces for walks. One of my family favorites is a trip to The Old Mine in Downtown where you can enjoy great pizza with amazing adult beverages and then head right next door for Sweets Ice Cream. As we are in the phase of parenting where we have young children (3 and 7), we also really enjoy going to Coal Creek Park for their playground, splash pad, and walkway with musical instruments.
In the areas surrounding Erie, we love to go into Lyons, CO to enjoy Lavern M. Johnson Park for the day. They have a great playground, water area, and you can even float the creek! After the park, heading over to Left Hand Brewery for their music garden is one of our favorite afternoon activities. It is very family/dog friendly with great live music and a great way to spend time outdoors in the great Colorado weather.
One of the things I never take for granted is how lucky we are to live so close to the mountains. There’s something incredibly grounding about stepping outside, breathing in the fresh air, and being surrounded by the beauty of Colorado’s landscape.
Whether it’s a quick hike, a spontaneous trip to the river, or just sitting under the trees at a local park, being outdoors is where I find my peace and reset. The mountains offer the perfect backdrop to disconnect from the busyness of life and reconnect with what really matters—nature, family, and perspective.
Having all of this so close to home is a gift. It’s a reminder that joy, balance, and adventure don’t have to be far away. Sometimes, all it takes is stepping outside to feel whole again.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have always had a lifelong support group- my family! I want to give a huge thank you to my incredible family for always believing in me and encouraging me to pursue my physical therapy degree. Their unwavering support and constant reminders of my purpose kept me going, especially during the moments of doubt.
My husband is absolutely the reason that I decided to start a business on my own. With his background in business and financial insight as a Financial Consultant for Charles Schwab, he gave me that extra push to not just dream big, but act on it. His confidence in me and guidance behind the scenes made all the difference in starting this journey. I couldn’t have done it without him!
I want to give a huge thank you to my friends at Rowenhorst Chiropractic for believing in me and encouraging me to take the leap into a brick-and-mortar clinic. I was honestly very apprehensive about making the transition from mobile to a physical space—it felt like a huge step with a lot of unknowns. But I’ll never forget one Thursday night when the Rowenhorst’s looked at me and said, “Whenever you’re uncomfortable for the next step, you know it’s time to take the leap and grow.” That moment stuck with me—and it was exactly the push I needed. Because of their encouragement, support, and a little extra faith, I made the leap… and I’m so grateful I did.
Swimming through college at Drury University was one of the most formative experiences of my life. Being part of that incredible team gave me more than just athletic discipline—it gave me a second family, lifelong friends, and a powerful network of mentors and motivators. My coaches and teammates had a huge influence on me. Their drive, focus, and relentless pursuit of excellence shaped the way I approach every challenge, including building my own business. The values we lived every day—accountability, consistency, resilience—continue to push me forward. Watching my former teammates go on to succeed in life, both personally and professionally, is one of my biggest motivators. It reminds me that we come from something special—and that the bar is always set high for a reason.
Here’s to chasing dreams—with a support system like mine, nothing feels impossible.
