Meet Laura DeOtte | Owner & Tutor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura DeOtte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors behind our success is the care and attention we give to both our students and their families. We focus on building strong, trusting relationships, which allows us to truly understand each student’s needs and goals. We take the time to get to know our students and make sure that we are not only helping academically, but also building confidence and reducing stress. Combined with our commitment to providing consistently high-quality service, this personalized approach is what keeps our students engaged, motivated, and successful—and keeps families referring us to their friends and family.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Elevate STEM Tutoring started out as a passion and has turned into the most rewarding career I could have hoped for. I started tutoring for fun and after about 7 years, I realized I could make something I loved an even bigger part of my life with a little bit of courage. In 2021, I left my previous job and started Elevate STEM Tutoring full-time.
Through the process of growing my business, I’ve discovered that quality tutoring is about so much more than just a subject. It is about individuals and their fears, academic stresses, and the joys that make them thrive. Because of this understanding, we approach tutoring holistically. Understanding how to build a students confidence and help them enjoy learning creates a lasting impact beyond a single math or science class, and that is our goal.
As I saw the impact my tutoring was having on students’ academics and their lives, I knew I need to grow Elevate beyond just myself. This pushed me to begin hiring and training tutors so we can reach more students and have a greater impact. In a world of high-stress academics and many students feeling defeated in STEM subjects, we offer hope and confidence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For visiting friends we always head to Cheyenne canyon for a hike and try to visit the Rabbit Hole for a unique and delicious dinner. We also always stop by Nightingale bakery and Building 3 coffee for snacks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Small Business Development Center has been the best resource in getting to where I am today. Without their free resources and access to experts I would have had so much trouble making sure that I was checking all the right boxes as I built my business.
I also would give credit to Eclectic Co. My first business was part of their downtown space and being able to meet to many amazing small business owners and being able to collaborate and talk about business together helped me feel confident when I moved on to starting Elevate STEM tutoring
