We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddy Fauth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Great Guys was really a culmination of personal work experiences that both Marcus and I experienced. For me I had experience in many large corporate settings. It was frustrating to feel undervalued or “a number”. It didn’t feel as if there was a true team behind the projects or work that I was contributing to. I had to take a step back and reflect, I asked myself what impact am I making and is it enough? At that point in time, the answer was no. In 2015, my mother passed away unexpectedly and it was a wake up call for me. I realized that if there is something that you want from your life you need to take the risk to live a fulfilled life that you love because life is so unpredictable and can literally be gone in an instant. I left the corporate world and began working in the cannabis industry, which was unlike any industry at the time. It was fast paced and cutting edge with massive opportunities for growth. I could see the positive outcomes of our decisions both for the business and team play out daily. It was at the point that I realized that I wanted to own my own business. I wanted to be able to serve my community and my team. I approached Marcus about starting a company during that time and it took a little while for the idea to take root. When we discussed the core essence of our business we wanted to educate and empower our clients to make the best decision for them related to their home service needs. We wanted our team to know we care, that we wanted them to be successful both personally and professionally. That we were committed to helping them feel as if they had a positive impact on their community and a vehicle to meet their own goals. In 2018 we finally made the leap and we are so grateful and proud of what we have built, how we serve our community and our team. Its just been an amazing experience.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have had a pretty eclectic career, that has allowed me to explore what generates success and what doesn’t. Throughout my career I tried to hang on to what worked well and leave the rest behind. I think what sets me apart from others is my commitment and passion to growth, in addition to helping others grow and be their best. I strive to support anyone that I cross paths with. I want to be a positive influence on anyone I come into contact with, even if its a small as a smile.

I think I got to where I am today with that passion and being a little stubborn. I refused to give up. We have a saying in our family when a road block comes up. “we will figure it out, because we always do.” That has been an anchor for me throughout my life both personally and professionally. From my perspective anything in life worth having doesn’t come easy. You have to decide “what do I want more?”

If the answer to that question is what you are passionate about, you’re not thinking about whether it is easy or not. You’re just focused on what it takes to get to that goal. Surrounding yourself with mentors and cheerleaders helps make that goal/passion more attainable. I think its a quote from Devon Burough but we choose our hard in life and I genuinely believe that. To be successful at anything you have to want it more than you want anything else in your life and adapt your life and decisions to prioritize that want.

I think the last piece is staying humble. Recognizing that you will always have something to learn is extremely important. Go into everyday with the intention to learn something new or learn from a previous mistake. When you stop learning, you stop growing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I show folks around I typically show them Downtown Littleton. There are so many different options for food an entertainment. A record store recently opened up down there which has definitely been taking up a good portion of my time. It easily walkable and really has a ton of options for anyone with varying interests.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, this is a tough one. I have had so many positive influences that have helped me grow to where I am.

I think the first is my mentor and good friend Daniel. He gave me my first HVAC job ever. He has turned into a great friend throughout my career. He is one of the most talented technicians I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He believed in me and was my cheerleader and still continues to be to this day. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his investment and the chance he took on me.

Brandon Jones is also someone that I would like to acknowledge. He has supported me through my leadership journey. Teaching me what it means to be the best possible leader within an organization that I possibly could be.

My partner Linzy, She is such an amazing support. Having the support of another woman in the trades space has had a huge impact on my confidence. Being an entrepreneur and business owner in a male dominated industry requires having support from other women. She is just a rockstar and an inspiration every day.

Last is Marcus, my business partner and father. After my mother passed away we became so close. His daily support of me in our business is unlike anything I could have ever imagined. I am so grateful to have him by my side as we navigate the craziness of this world together and stive to help people everyday.
