We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane Deitchman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it came down to wanting more control over the quality of work I was putting out and how customers were treated. I’ve always believed (and my mom always told me) that if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time, no shortcuts. I saw too many companies cutting corners or just rushing through jobs, and that didn’t sit right with me. I wanted to build something that reflected my values: taking pride in my work, being reliable, and treating people’s homes like my own. Plus, I liked the idea of creating something for myself and my family that I could be proud of, and Ollie, my dog, gets to come along for the ride sometimes, so that’s a bonus.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting Ollie’s Carpet Cleaning has definitely been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made, but it wasn’t easy. I didn’t come from a business background — everything I’ve built has come from a mix of hands-on experience, long nights, trial and error, and a whole lot of determination. What sets me apart is that I’m not just in this to get in and get out — I truly care about the results and the people I’m working with. I treat every home like it’s my own, and I think that kind of care shows in the quality of my work.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve been able to build with my clients. I’ve had people refer me to their neighbors, friends, and family, and that means a lot. I also get excited about continuing to learn — this industry is always evolving with better equipment and techniques, and I’m constantly pushing myself to stay ahead of the curve.

One of the biggest challenges was just getting started — investing in the right equipment, learning the chemistry behind stain and odor removal, figuring out the business side of things. I had to ask a lot of questions, make a few mistakes, and lean on people who were willing to help. But every challenge taught me something valuable: show up, be consistent, and never stop improving.

If there’s one thing I’d want people to know about me and my brand, it’s that Ollie’s isn’t some big franchise or quick in-and-out service. It’s a local, owner-operated business built on quality, honesty, and care. I’m in this for the long haul, and I take pride in doing the job right every single time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d make sure they got a real taste of what Northern Colorado has to offer. We’d hit a mix of good food, outdoor adventure, and cool local spots. We’d check out Old Town Fort Collins for shopping, breweries like Odell and New Belgium, and grab brunch at Lucile’s or The Farmhouse at Jessup Farm. In Loveland, we’d stop by Scheels — even if you’re not into sports, it’s just a fun place to walk around — and probably grab snacks or just check out the madness at Buc-ee’s.

For a workout or recovery day, Gold’s Gym in Loveland is my go-to, and we might unwind after at a local brewery or coffee shop. If we’re in the mood for nature, we’ve got Horsetooth, the Poudre River, and Estes Park all nearby. What I love about this area is that there’s always something to do, whether you’re hiking, grabbing a craft cocktail at Social, or just relaxing with good people. There’s a strong local business community here, and it’s cool to be a part of that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. I’ve got a lot of people to thank who’ve played a part in helping me get Ollie’s Carpet Cleaning off the ground. First off, a big shoutout to my family and friends — their support means everything. I also want to give credit to Harry O’s Carpet Cleaning for the inspiration to take this leap and start my own business. Huge thanks to James with NOCO Carpet Cleaning — he went out of his way to help me with training and really showed me the ropes. And I’ve got to mention Extraction Zone in Loveland — they made sure I had all the tools and equipment I needed to hit the ground running. It definitely takes a village, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.
