We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Hatch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Travis, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From a young age, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of storytelling and its impact on people. I would have movies that I really loved, and would watch them over and over again. Storytelling is the oldest artform, and for a long time was really the only way of passing on information. Cognitive psychologist Jerome Bruner suggests we are 22 times more likely to remember a fact when it has been wrapped in a story, because stories are memorable. Stories help us grab the gist of an idea quickly.
The decision to pursue a career in video production and storytelling was a no-brainer after I suddenly lost my marketing job in 2020. I wanted to work for myself, and combine my experience with marketing and storytelling, with my life long passion for video & photo. In branding, storytelling not only captivates but converts. It’s not just about what you do; it’s about the stories you tell. The moment I realized that through video, I could not only tell stories but also evoke emotions and drive meaningful conversations, I was hooked.
This artistic path allows me to explore human experiences, innovate visually, and contribute positively by bringing compelling brand narratives to life. Each project is a new opportunity to challenge my creativity, I have a lot of variety in my life now with makes it exciting and fulfilling!
What should our readers know about your business?
At Travis Hawkes Media, what excites and makes me proud isn’t just the work we do—it’s the relationships we build. Many of my clients become friends, and together, we create videos that aren’t just visually stunning but also meaningful and fun. It’s this sense of community and shared purpose that makes every project special. We work hard, but at the end of the day, I’m shooting videos with friends, and that’s awesome!
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. There’s no secret shortcut to success in the video production industry. The real ‘secret,’ if you can call it that, is consistent hard work and a commitment to learning and networking. Over the past four years, I’ve invested heavily in my development through online courses, mentorship groups, and becoming part of a vibrant community of creatives. Many view these investments as unnecessary, but for me, they’ve had the biggest impact on my growth. They provide not just knowledge but also connections that have been vital to my business. This commitment to being a ‘forever student’ helps me stay ahead, making those 1% improvements every day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure they get a taste of both Denver’s vibrant city vibe and the tranquil beauty of Colorado’s mountains. We’d start in Denver, grabbing a bite in the Cherry Creek and Highlands areas—perfect spots for enjoying great food.
Then, we’d get up into the mountains! I’d take them snowboarding at Winter Park, my favorite spot (shhhh, don’t tell anyone).
Crested Butte is also a great spot, laid-back vibes, or Steamboat! Also, Aspen when we’re feeling a bit more upscale. The Rockys are the real Colorado to me so I always try to get up there whenever I can!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, I firmly believe that no one achieves anything entirely on their own. There are always mentors, teams, and supporters who play critical roles. I would love to give a special shoutout to the vibrant creative community in Denver, which has been an incredible source of inspiration and support. Specifically, I’d like to highlight the role of Scott Barber from Scott Barber Film, who not only nudged me toward this career path but has continuously mentored me along the way. His guidance has been invaluable in shaping both my skills and my approach to storytelling.
Additionally, the book “Building A StoryBrand” by Donald Miller profoundly impacted my understanding of how to effectively communicate through narratives. This book has become a cornerstone in how I approach creating compelling, clear, and customer-centric stories at Travis Hawkes Media.
Lastly, I must recognize the team at The Phoenix, a non-profit I’ve had the privilege to work with for a few years now. Their dedication to making a difference in the lives of others has profoundly impacted how I approach storytelling, striving to make every piece meaningful and impactful. Their belief in the power of recovery and community drives me to tell stories that matter and can inspire change.
