Meet Kenny Nguyen | President | Design & Sales

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started in the industry when I was 23, working for a lawn care company that prioritized volume over quality. The work was fast, customer service was inconsistent, and employees were often treated poorly — undervalued and pushed to the side. It opened my eyes to how common that culture was in the landscaping world, especially among smaller companies. That experience stuck with me.
I knew there had to be a better way. I believed clients deserved more — personalized service, real professionalism, and a team that takes pride in every detail. And I believed the people doing the work deserved better too — fair treatment, opportunity, and respect.
That belief led me to start my own business. It wasn’t always called Nature’s Way Landscapes — it evolved through a few different names and phases as I figured out who I was as a leader and what kind of company I wanted to build. Each version taught me something valuable, and each step brought me closer to what Nature’s Way is today: a business grounded in care, quality, and connection — for both clients and the team behind the work.

What should our readers know about your business?
Nature’s Way Landscapes is a high-end landscape design and construction company based in Colorado. We create custom outdoor living spaces — from full 3D designs and hardscape installations to water features, lighting, and year-round property maintenance. But more than that, we create retreats. Spaces that help people feel calm, connected, and truly at home outdoors.
What sets us apart is our approach. We listen first. Every project starts with understanding the client — their vision, their lifestyle, what brings them peace. Then we craft something that’s uniquely theirs. We’re not chasing trends or pushing pre-made designs. We’re building personalized, timeless landscapes that reflect each client’s style — and we maintain them long after the build is done.
Getting to where we are today hasn’t been easy. Like any small business, we’ve faced our share of challenges — from growing pains to staffing to financial hurdles. There were times I had to learn the hard way how to lead, how to manage, and how to stay true to the values that mattered most. But each obstacle taught me something — and each step forward helped shape the business into what it is now.
One moment that really sticks with me is something Alonso — one of our key team members — once said: “Everybody’s working for the money, but not everyone is doing the right thing.” That hit me hard, because it sums up the way we think at Nature’s Way. Yes, we all work to make a living — but it’s how we do the work that matters. We don’t cut corners. We don’t disappear when things get hard. We show up, we communicate, and we take pride in every detail.
I’m incredibly proud of this team — Saul, Alonso, Israel, and everyone who puts their heart into the work every day. I’m proud of the relationships we’ve built with clients who trust us with their homes. And the feedback we get from those clients speaks volumes — their reviews really show how much they value not just the results, but the way we work.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about Nature’s Way Landscapes, it’s that we’re here to do things differently. We believe your outdoor space should be more than just beautiful — it should feel like home. And we’re here to help you create that, the right way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my best friends came to visit for the week, I’d keep it simple, fun, and real — the kind of week that mixes good food, time outside, and just slowing down a bit. We’re based in Broomfield, so that’s home base for everything.
Day 1: We’d start with breakfast at Snooze or The Huckleberry in Louisville, then hit Bobolink Trail or somewhere easy in Boulder to shake off the travel. That night, maybe grab pizza and a beer at Avery Brewing — it’s not far, and it’s a favorite.
Day 2: We’d make a day trip out to Rocky Mountain National Park. Whether it’s hiking or just taking in the views, it’s always worth it. On the way back, we’d swing through Lyons for burgers at Oskar Blues. Laid back and always hits the spot.
Day 3: Take it slower — brunch at The Buff in Boulder, then walk around Pearl Street or hang out at Chautauqua Park. That night, we’d do something a little more upscale — maybe Corrida for dinner with a view of the Flatirons.
Day 4: Head into Denver for the day. Walk through RiNo, grab food at Avanti or Root Down, maybe catch a Rockies game or, if we’re lucky, a show at Red Rocks. Can’t come to Colorado without hitting Red Rocks at least once.
Day 5: Do something more chill like paddleboarding at Union Reservoir or just a hangout day. Dinner would be tacos and margs at T/aco in Boulder — no fuss, just great food.
Day 6: We’d stay close to home — hang out in the backyard, fire up the grill, maybe a little music and a fire pit. That’s the kind of night I love most — just relaxing, no agenda.
Day 7: Last day, we’d keep it low-key. Breakfast at Lucile’s or Early Bird here in Broomfield, then maybe a final walk before the airport.
For me, it’s not about hitting all the tourist spots. It’s about that mix of outdoors, local favorites, and downtime — that’s the Colorado vibe I’d want to share.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, my amazing wife Tracy and our beautiful daughter Emma deserve the biggest shoutout. Tracy has been my rock — supporting me through every high and low, believing in this dream even when it was just an idea, and reminding me why I started in the first place. And Emma, just seeing her grow gives me a deeper sense of purpose and a drive to build something meaningful and lasting.
My parents and family have also been a constant source of love and encouragement. Their belief in me, even during the early days when nothing was guaranteed, gave me the strength to keep going. That foundation of support shaped who I am and how I lead.
Frank Lesser, my mentor, has played a huge role in my journey. With decades of experience and a true dedication to craftsmanship, he’s taught me the importance of doing things right — with patience, integrity, and heart.
And I couldn’t answer this question without recognizing my team at Nature’s Way Landscapes. Saul, Alonso, and Israel — these guys are the backbone of what we do. Their skill, work ethic, and commitment to our clients and craft are a big reason we’re able to deliver the kind of work we’re proud of. They show up every day with professionalism and pride, and I’m truly grateful to have them on this journey.
Lastly, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill was a book that changed the way I think. There’s a poem in it by Walter D. Wintle that really stuck with me — especially the line: “Success begins with a fellow’s will — it’s all in the state of mind.” That one quote has helped me push through tough moments, stay focused, and believe that I could build something real.
No business is built alone, and I’m deeply thankful for every person who’s helped shape this one.
