Stories, Lessons & Insights

We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

My favorite quote is from 1 Corinthians 16:14, which says, “Let all that you do be done in love.” As a young Christian woman, this Bible verse is my compass. For me, it means embodying God’s love in every action – whether it’s through kindness, generosity, empathy, gratitude, or humility. I love this verse because it serves as a constant reminder to approach every situation from a place of love, regardless of what arises. Because of this perspective, my demeanor is consistently positive, and true joy is a natural part of who I am. It’s through a lens of love that I seek genuine understanding, practice active listening, and communicate with tenderness. Read More>>

Success can be measured through many avenues in a small business. Though paying the bills is an important piece that allows me to continue, I am grateful for the many other attributes that come with custom design and manufacturing. The people I am blessed to serve and provide a quality product to, is very meaningful to me. Clients and I work together to create a hat that will both serve and protect them in their unique style. Interacting with folks, allows me to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually. I find that I am a bit of an introvert, so though I embrace client interaction, I am equally as content working alone listening to good music and laughing at my own bad jokes. I truly feel like I have the perfect job. Read More>>

As I’ve grown in my career as a photographer, people sometimes ask if I will ever walk away from it. The answer is no because I still truly love it. Every time I am running around Rocky Mountain National Park with two people in love, every concert I photograph and every moment I solidify with my camera has real meaning for the people in those photos. I have seen couples I photographed at their wild wedding in 2018 now chasing their second child around, and I think about how those kids will someday flip through their parent’s wedding album after they are gone. That is why I keep going. This work lasts and it matters. Read More>>

Of all the things that I do for my daughter, I know that how I am being has the greatest impact on how she sees herself and the world. The choices I make, the ways in which I speak about myself and others, and how I move through the world is what she’s learning from me. So I live my life in a way that’s an authentic expression of who I am and a reflection of my values and deepest desires. My wish for her is that she is able to live her life in a way that’s uniquely true for her and her own desires. Read More>>

I’m really not very good at reading books but recently I had the happiness of reading two that were about success and how to pursue it, and I realized that it’s all about wanting to look for it and achieve it, nothing comes by chance, you have to work on it because even if it’s there, that opportunity is waiting for you, it’s waiting for you to discover it yourself and I think that will make you feel much more proud of yourself. And never forget to smile despite the bad times Read More>>

I value the ability to inspire, empower, and encourage others in areas of creativity and art where i can. This matters most to me because i believe if people have a positive outlet they can turn to that in heavy times. The main factor of overcoming hardships and losses in my life was my desire & ability to turn to artistic expression and creativity. My imagination was taken to new levels and that helped me find comfort. Read More>>

The value that matters most to me is human connection.
As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I’ve been trained in many tools—medications, supplements, integrative approaches, and psychedelics—but again and again, I return to the power of relationship. In my work, connection is not just therapeutic—it’s essential. Read More>>

The most difficult decision I have had to make was deciding to go ahead with a divorce and become a single mother to 4 kids, one with a disability and congenital heart disease with no family or friends nearby. I had been a faithful trad wife for 10 years cooking all the meals from scratch, cloth diapering my babies, tending to my families every need and want. I felt like I was at a point in life where I had to decide to choose my happiness or the happiness of everyone else around me. I went into marriage hopeful and excited to finally be fulfilled and feel complete by starting a family. Read More>>
